The official name of the society is Edinburgh University Russian Society, herein referred to as the Society.

 

The executive of the society comprises of three main positions, which report to Edinburgh University.

a. The President

b. The Secretary

c. The Treasurer

 

The society comprises of four additional positions, which are assigned by the President.

a. Public Relations officer

b. Sports officer

c. Social secretary

d. Events officer

e. Vice-president

 

President of the Society

a. The President is the head of the society and bears the ultimate responsibility for the functioning of the society.

b. The members of the society elect the President yearly for the period of one year.

c. In order to run for Presidency, the candidate must be a member of the society and a matriculated student of Edinburgh University.

d. To stand for elections one must have been a member of the society for at least a year.

e. The President has the authority to check the finances of the society at any time.

f. The President holds the right to call for a vote at the committee any officer in cases of incompetence.

g. The president may be discharged by the committee at the emergency general meeting.

Secretary

a. The Secretary's responsibility is to assist the President in running the society.

b. If for any reason the President is unable to run the society, the Secretary takes over the President’s responsibilities.

c. The Secretary is elected during the annual elections.

d. In order to hold the position of the Secretary's one must have been a member of the Society for at least a year, as well as matriculated student of the University of Edinburgh.

e. The Secretary has the authority to check the finances of the society at any time.

f. The Secretary shall be responsible to the President for running the society.

Treasurer of the Russian Society

a. The Treasurer's responsibility is to manage the finances of the society.

b. The Treasurer is accountable to the President and the Secretary.

c. In order to hold the position of the Treasurer one must have been a member of the Society for at least a year, as well as a matriculated student of the University of Edinburgh.

d. The Treasurer is elected during the annual elections.

e. The Treasurer shall be responsible to the President for running the society.

 

 

The General Committee

a. The business of the society shall be managed by a General Committee organized by office-bearers who are themselves members of the General Committee.

b. Any full member of the Society shall be entitled to sit on the General Committee

c. The President holds the right to call for a vote to discharge any member of the committee.

d. Society office bearers will attend annual society training as outlined by the Societies’ Team.

e. The General Committee is responsible to the Annual General Meeting.

f. The procedure of voting in the committee is based on the simple majority of votes.

 

Membership in the Society

a. Society membership will be available for all matriculated students.

b. Society membership entitles one to a free entrance to all the Society events and activities, unless the entrance fee is mentioned specifically

c. The normal fee for gaining membership in the Society is £5 (five pounds sterling) and is compulsory for all students.

d. Society membership is also available for non-students for a fee of £10 (ten pounds sterling).

e. Only members of the society matriculated with the University of Edinburgh have the right to run for Presidency and hold the posts of the Secretary and the Treasurer.

f. Only members of the society matriculated with the University of Edinburgh have the right to vote at the Society’s Annual General Meeting.

g. When gaining membership in the Society, all members will provide their student cards, name, matriculation number and email.

h. The General Committee may, at their discretion, issue a warning to any member or guest who disturbs a Society event, causes distress or harm to other members, or brings the Society into disrepute.

i. If the warning is ignored that person may be ejected from the venue or event; and in the case of members may have their membership revoked with no refund.
