To P e r f o r m. Ask someone to hand you any spoon or fork on the table

Ask someone to hand you any spoon or fork on the table. Take whichever you’re given—say it’s the spoon—and make a fist around the handle with your right hand so the bowl sticks out the bottom. The back of the spoon’s bowl, the rounded part, should be touching the table (photo 1).

Curl your left fingers around the top of the spoon’s handle (photo 2). You should be holding the spoon high enough so that the top of the handle is inside your fist and cannot be seen. To make it look like you’re bending the spoon, press firmly downward

with both hands. Let the spoon’s handle slip out the back of your fist and move downward so that the bowl of the spoon bends flatly on the table (photo 3 is what the audience sees, photo 4 is an ex-posed view). The people cannot see that you are not still holding the handle upright, so it looks like the spoon is bent.

Open your hands flatly over the spoon, covering it. Act as if you’re exerting great strength as you cause the spoon to mysteri-ously straighten out to its origi-nal form, then lift both hands to reveal it.

Advanced Version:

You can add a nifty touch to this by having a nickel hidden in your left hand before you take the spoon. When you get into position, push the nickel up to the top of your fist with your left thumb (photo 5, photo 6 is a close-up)—the nickel appears to be the upper end of the spoon’s handle! Perform the trick exactly as explained and, after the spoon has apparently been bent, the people can still see what appears to

be the handle of the spoon protruding from the top of your fist. As you turn both hands palm down over the spoon, your right thumb slides the nickel under your right hand so it is no longer visible. After you pull your hands back so the people can see the straightened spoon on the table, casually put your hands in your pockets. While there, your

right hand drops the nickel.

Metal Bend Vanish

Criss takes a spoon between his hands, magically bends it, then twists it into nothingness.
