Let me introduce myself. I’m Svetlana Alexandrova. I was born on the 29 of March 1985 in Minsk under the zodiac sign of Aries. I believe that stars influence our fate and character. It’s believed that Aries is full of energy, a leader, straight talker, ambitious and frank, likes sport, stubborn, hot tempered, but quick to apologize. Practically it’s true. I can’t admit I’m stubborn. Actually, I’m persistent and I always try to reach my goal. It’s different I think.

As to my appearance, I’m rather tall and slim. I have never thought I am a beauty. I wish I were more beautiful. I think, that I’m even-tempered, rather reserved, calm and modest. But sometimes I can lose my temper and become either angry or sad. I like staying along and sometimes I retire into my shell. But at the same time I like my friends, I like to laugh and to joke. I have got a sense of humour. It means I understand humour and appreciate it. But unfortunately, I’m not often witty myself. I think, I’m able to “keep my head when all about me are loosing theirs” and to stand up to difficulties when things are not going my way. Besides, I’m sincere and tolerant, friendly and faithful, hardworking and serious.

There are many things in our life which I like and some I dislike. I like when everything is OK. Being happy is one way of being wise. I like to study, because knowledge is useful sometimes. I’m fond of reading as it gives not only knowledge but also wonderful moments of joy and pleasure. Sometimes I enjoy watching TV or listening to the radio, especially when I can hear some wonderful pieces of music. I like music. It makes people better. It awakens the best feelings and emotions. But there is a thing that makes me crazy. I dislike overcrowded buses and I hate getting up early. I’m happy I have got more things I like than I dislike.

From the very start I should say that it’s not an easy thing to speak about yourself as it’s hard to have a look at yourself from aside, but at the same time who knows you better than you yourself do? So to begin with I should say that I am a boy of nineteen with dark hair and blue eyes. I am fairly tall, about 180centemetres tall, but not of a very powerful build. I am short-sighted and I have to wear glasses most of the time.

Now a few words about my character and interests. My friends say that I’m sociable, honest, helpful and cheerful. But my parents and my teachers sometimes say that I’m not hard-working enough, and that sometimes I’m stubborn and hard to deal with, but I don’t think I’m. I often lose my temper but never have a grudge against anybody. My favourite occupation is playing the guitar, reading and going to the theatre. I’m fond of sport as well. That’s all I can say about myself.

When I look at myself in the mirror I see a blond girl with short straight hair, dark eyes and a slender figure. I have to wear high-heeled shoes all the time as I am small, slightly over 160 centimeters in height. I always envy tall girls, to say nothing of top models.

I am a sociable person, so I’ve got a lot of friends among my schoolmates. I appreciate people’s honesty, kindness, sense of justice and intelligence. I don’t like it when people are rude and aggressive.

I’m stubborn at times. But to my mind being persistent and stubborn is not always a bad thing. It also means that I do everything possible to achieve my aim. I never leave things half-done.

At times I feel dissatisfied with myself, especially when I fail to do something or can’t do things the way they should be done. At the same time I think I’m hard-working and diligent. My greatest problem is talking in front of the audience, I always blush and go red.

I haven’t got any special hobby, like collecting something, but I’m fond of reading books. They give me more knowledge of other people’s lives and feelings and broaden my outlook.

\And of course, I like music! I’m fond of the music of the 60-s, like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley. The songs of the Beatles give me much delight and pleasure. Besides I’m a great theatre-goer. Whenever I have some time to spare, I go to the theatre. I’m not keen on television, I don’t watch it much. That’s all I can say about myself.

My family

I believe that everything has its beginning in the family. Family is very important for every person, because it gives you a sense of stability and tradition, a feeling of having support and understanding. In happy families parents are frank and honest with their children, they treat their children with respect without moralizing or bossing them all the time and children in their turn learn how to treat other people, how to form relationship among their equals. In a friendly family people are gentle, respectful and loving. They always share joys and sorrows as well as domestic chores. That is how things should be in every family.

In my opinion, family is an emotional centre of a person’s life, transmitter of culture, the place where children are being raised.

The proverb says “Men make houses, women make homes”. In my view, it means that the man provides for his family, pays attention to the problems of the members of the family. And the woman creates the homely atmosphere, encourages her husband and children to keep up family traditions and keeps the house. Together they bring up their children in the right way.

It is true to our family, I think. My parents have been married for twenty-six years. My father’s name is Vitaly. He is 45 years old. He is an engineer at a Motor Plant. He is tall and strong both in body and character, but rather stout. He has plump oval face with an aquiline nose. He’s generous and full of joy, but very careless. It goes without saying that he is very busy, always concentrated on his work and having very little time for private life. I like it very much when he finds time to talk with me about my difficulties and my interests. There is a lot of kindness between me and dad both in appearance and in character.

My mother’s name is Irina. She is a medium size woman. She has got a thin oval attractive face and light grey eyes and a snub nose. When she was young she had thick curly ash-blond long hair, now she wears her hair short. My mother is a woman of character, well-bred, tactful and fair. She’s warm-hearted and at the same time practical, reserved and full of common sense. She does a good job of being a mother. In fact, she means a lot to me. I know I can be a real pain sometimes and I do tend to blame her for everything that goes wrong with me. Mum understands me in the way no other person would, and she always finds proper words to confirm me. Sometimes I feel she is too bossy. My friends seem to have more freedom and independence, but I am not angry with her, as I know she means the best for me.

I have many remote relations: two grandmothers,, aunts, uncles and cousins. All of them live in Belarus and we get together from time to time, mainly on our birthdays and other holidays.

I enjoy the honest and open relationship in my family. I like it when parents trust their children, give them freedom, rely on them and respect them. These things in my opinion make family relations warm and pleasant. There is no generation gap in our family, though we often argue and disagree on certain issues. I can always bring my friends home and my parents are very positive about my friends although they don’t always approve of our tests, views and clothes. That’s all I can say about my parents.
