We want to introduce some definitions and topicality.

Topicality

Taking into account recent events (the economic crisis in Europe, the Russian response on western sanctions), the government in many countries have been actively supporting the development of food production and urge citizens to buy local products. Countries are reviewing the course of economic development and trade in general globalization where food industry plays an important role.

Definitions

Food of local production - products manufactured within the same district (region, state).
Products of the lowest category - basic products (flour, bread, cereals, milk, etc.)
Stagnation - the state of the economy, characterized by stagnation of production and trade over a long period. Stagnation is accompanied by an increase in unemployment, lower wages and living standards.
Food securit y - the element of national security. A situation in which all people have physical and economic access to have food for an active and healthy life.

To prove our point of view we will use 3 arguments.

Our first argument: "Agricultural support"
Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the economy. Economic stability, social status, the overall development of the country depends on its state.

For example, at the beginning of the 2000s, the French Government supported the policy of "buying the products of regional manufacturers" to develop agriculture and bring the country out of prolonged stagnation. At that time, local agricultural production was not able to produce the right amount of even basic products (flour, bread, cereals, etc.). The French had to buy food from neighbors: Germany, Holland, Denmark. That was reflected not only in the wallets of consumers, but also for the development of agriculture and the domestic economy as well. During the stagnation of agriculture a huge amount of money drained from the state. There was a problem with employment, increasing tax payments, etc.
Since 2003 the French government has begun to support the policy of buying locally produced goods. It led to the development of farms, increasing GDP, appearing new job vacancies. It helped the country to get out of a prolonged food crisis.
Giving priority to the locally manufactured food helps to support agriculture, gives impetus to the development of industry, improve social and economic situation of the state. Therefore, our team proves that we should buy locally grown food.

Our second argument: "Economic independence"
Today in many cities of the world trade level of local food is extremely low. Regions that do not develop the food industry, are dependent on suppliers. Citizens are forced to consume imported products, spending vast amounts of money on products which are, in fact, can be grown in their native regions. This factor greatly reduces the level of economic independence of producers. Due to the stagnation of the product production, states lose the opportunity to manage the domestic economy in the food industry.
That is why, at a cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev set the task to provide food security in Russia. Food security is one of the main objectives of agricultural and economic policies of all states. It includes a range of measures solving the problem of production, foreign trade. Medvedev said: "The main factor in the development food security should be the support of local production. Thus, urban residents will invest in the development of its own economy, which will improve the economic situation of the regions and the country as a whole."
Giving priority to the locally manufactured food we save lot of money within the country, support the development of production, raise the level of economic stability and independence.

Our third argument: "The use of local production"
Buying locally produced food you get more than just better and fresher taste. Regions can make good themselves in an ecologically clean environment without chemicals and additional transport.
Take the example of potato. According to the official statistics, the farmers of the CIS countries are able to supply potato for 92%. But, unfortunately, this kind of vegetables is imported from Egypt or Spain. In addition, regional manufacturers do not use pesticides, preservatives, GMOs, which are very dangerous and harmful to people. This fact increases the value of local products compared with import.
Organic products also affect the world around us. It connects to the fact how they were grown and how far transported. Meat and milk are processed specially for long transportation. Products lose their useful qualities and can cause toxic pollution.

Consumption of locally produced goods is useful, safe, does not pollute the environment. Buying these products, we do not only support the local farmers and the country's economy, but also take care of your health and nature. Therefore, we have to buy locally grown food.

Our first argument: "Agricultural support"

Our first speaker told you about how the policy of local product support helps to improve agriculture, industry, state of the country’s economy as a whole. We cited the example of France, which was able to get out of the economic crisis through the development of the policy of "demand of local food products." I would like to continue this argument.
Consider Germany, where the government for many years has called on citizens to buy goods of regional farms. Since the 90s the government has begun a program of intensive development of agricultural complex. Germany is often called the country of small family farms. In recent years part of the land for family farms has increased by almost 10%. In addition to the continuous production of agricultural products, such a policy has increased the percentage of employment and increased wages and qualifications. Today, Germany has a high agricultural productivity. 80% of the goods at the domestic market is of local production.
Among the countries of the European Union Germany is on the first place for the development of agriculture. Thanks to the "demand and supply of local food products", many rural cooperatives have become competitive firms, the people are given jobs, residents consume fresh local products.
In this example we have considered the positive effect of the priority purchase of locally produced goods. Purchasing local goods boosts regional economies. In this way we support agriculture, the level of employment and domestic economy.

Giving priority to the purchase of locally produced goods we do not only support the development of production and raise the level of economic stability of the state, but also reduce the price for many products.
In Russia according to the calculations of customs experts transport logistics is up to 30% of the cost of food. By purchasing foreign products, we overpay not for the quality of the goods, but for its transportation and storage. For example, a liter of imported milk in Norilsk is worth 70 rubles, while in Moscow, you can buy fresh pure milk from a local farmer for 45 rubles.
In addition, buying regional products, we support local business, contributing to its development, raise the level of employment. So in Belarus from 2002 to 2007, the number of unemployed people dramatically reduced. This is due to the economic support of agriculture and demand for locally produced goods.
Buying locally produced food helps to reduce prices and unemployment, develop production and improve the economic stability of the state.

Our third argument: "The use of local production"
The first speaker told you about the benefits of the goods of local farms, healthy cultivation of these products and their positive impact on both human health and the environment. I would like to continue opening this argument.
In many countries there are some brands that aren’t sold in the country of origin and make the products only for export. For example, many Chinese products are made specially for export. A lot of pesticides and chemicals are used to grow such products. By purchasing these products, you can get a virus, poison, have some problems with health.
If you care about yourself and the planet, there are dozens of reasons to support local farmers. Buying locally produced goods we consume environmentally friendly and healthy food, support local manufacturers and do not harm the environment.
On the basis of the mentioned above, our team continues to prove that we should buy locally grown food.
