About American Councils: American Councils is a non-profit, educational and exchange organization. American Councils administers programs for the U.S. Department of State and other U.S. Federal agencies which include academic exchange, professional training, institution building, research, curriculum and materials development, technical assistance, and consulting.

About EducationUSA: EducationUSA Advising Centers are responsible for promoting U.S. higher education and for providing consultations to interested individuals on how to successfully apply to U.S. colleges and universities. Services and guidance to U.S. higher education institutions on Kazakhstan’s education system and education market are also provided by the centers. The centers are part of a U.S. State Department-supported network of 400 worldwide EducationUSA Advising Centers.

Summary of Position: The EducationUSA Adviser in Astana will be responsible for services to users in Astana and surrounding regions, as well as national-level outreach via electronic and other means. The EducationUSA Adviser will work closely with the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in Astana, and other EducationUSA Centers. The EducationUSA adviser will receive formal training, and will be eligible to participate in national and international conferences/trainings representing EducationUSA.

Responsibilities include:

• Promoting U.S. higher education through presentations at universities, high schools, fairs, and other educational institutions;
• Responding to inquiries and correspondence related to study in the U.S.;
• Educating and guiding applicants to programs for study in the U.S.;
• Building recognition of EducationUSA with key representatives of local and regional universities, schools, and government;
• Providing advice and services to U.S. universities related to recruitment and study-abroad for US students in Kazakhstan, including organizing educational fairs;
• Delivering pre-departure orientations and linking future students, current students, and alumni;
• Preparing reports for submission to stakeholders, organizing and maintaining files on reports and presentations;

• Administering the Opportunity Grants Program;
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Understanding of the U.S. higher education system gained from participation in a U.S.-based degree or non-degree academic study program at the higher education level lasting not less than one semester with its primary focus being on attending classes;
• University degree in a related area;
• Experience teaching or advising students;
• Program administration experience;
• Experience with social networking,, presentations, and marketing/promotion;
• Strong writing and communication skills in English and local languages;
• Ability to manage multiple priorities quickly and effectively;
• Effective interpersonal skills;
• Availability for work after regular working hours and on weekends.
