Seasons

In spring after the long cold, wet and foggy days it is warm again. Nature also awakens from its sleep and the trees and bushes are full of blossoms. This is also the time for fruit trees to come out in buds and bloom. But the weather is not exactly settled in spring. It is in fact quite capricious, especially in April. There can be heavy rainstorms lasting for a few hours or scattered showers lasting even for a couple of days.

In summer a hot spell is either followed by quick showers that sweep through the fields or steady rains lasting for a few days. Before a shower the sun hides behind the clouds which look dark and heavy against the summer sky. When the sky is completely overcast you know that the rain is not far off. Then suddenly lightning and thunder begin. If it is a passing shower then right after it a rainbow appears in the sky, which turns blue again and the sunshine is hotter than ever.

The beginning of autumn is called an Indian summer if the weather is still warm. Usually it is just like summer. We say that autumn is a rich season because the trees are full of fruits and most of the vegetables are harvested at the beginning of autumn too. Autumn is definitely the rainiest season. All kinds of precipitation may occur during the autumn months from drizzle and rain through mist, fog, hoar frost and sleet to snow.

When winter is here, the temperature falls below zero. Then smooth snow falls down from big, grey clouds.

Spring is a wonderful season. It comes and nature awakens from its winter sleep. The days become longer and the nights become shorter. The ground is covered with fresh green grass and the first spring flowers. There are new leaves and blossoms on the trees. The birds begin to sing and built their nests. The air is fresh and the sun shines brightly. The days are warm and everything is full of life and joy.

In summer nature surrounds us with all kinds of flowers. Sometimes the weather becomes very hot in summer and the air gets stuffy. Then a thunderstorm usually brings relief. The sky is suddenly covered with dark clouds and distant rolls of thunder are heard. Later bright flashes of lightning are followed by claps of thunder and it begins to rain. After the thunderstorm the air is remarkably fresh, and very often we can see a beautiful bridge across the sky which is called rainbow.

In September summer yields to autumn. The days become shorter and the nights become longer. The sun rays are not so bright and warm. Harvest time is a rush season for farmers. They gather sunflowers and maize, potatoes and cabbage, turnip, carrots and tomatoes. Early autumn is the period of flaming clouds, when the landscape is gold and brown. In the daytime the silver gossamer is flying in the air. It’s a sign of the beautiful ‘Indian Summer’. But unfortunately this period of fine weather is very short and deep autumn follows it. We say goodbye to birds that fly away to warm countries. The sky is covered with low, heavy clouds – the period of rain has set in.

In winter the weather is getting colder day by day. Soft, white snowflakes are falling thick and fast covering the ground and roofs. The snow lies thick upon the ground and birds hop about looking for food. A lot of icicles all glittering in the sun hang from roofs of houses.
