INTRODUCING YOURSELF My name is… I live in…with my family. There are four of us: my mum, my dad, my brother and I. We get along rather well though we have different needs, likes and dislikes. My brother causes more trouble to my parents than me. However, we all get on very well and we like to spend our free time together. My dad is the head of a big trading company and my mum is a music teacher. She has a good ear for music, and sometimes she composes her own songs. My younger brother studies at school and he is doing well in most subjects. As for me, I enjoy doing Maths, Physics and foreign languages. I am quite a hardworking, energetic, outgoing, reliable and responsible person. I like to spend my spare time with my friends playing tennis or swimming. Also I^m fond of horse-riding. I have got a rather unusual hobby. I collect different stories which happen to me, my family or to my friends during our holidays or while travelling. I think it is interesting and maybe in the future, I^ll write a book about it. Talking about my future plans, I can say that I^ll probably be a writer or a …… To be honest, I don^t know yet. The only thing I know for sure is that I^d like to study English and I^m looking forward to visiting and exploring foreign countries.

HOBBIES If you ask me about my hobby I don^t think, I^ll give you a definite answer. Hobbies differ like tastes. I think I belong to that group of people who like doing things. But there are also people who like making things or collecting things. As for me, doing things is most interesting. As a typical teenager, I spend hours exploring the Internet and playing computer games. But my parents are crazy about gardening. I know that gardening is one of man^s oldest hobbies, especially in some countries (Britain, for example). My father also likes collecting coins. I realize that collecting things as a hobby depends on one^s age and income. Almost everyone collects something at some period in their life: stamps, coins, matchboxes, books, records, postcards, telephone cards, toys, watches, paintings, cards, etc. Some collections have no real value. Others became so large and so valuable that they are housed in museums and galleries. No matter what kind of hobby a person has, he/she always has the opportunity of learning from it. By reading about the things he/she is interested in, he/she is adding to what he/she knows. Learning things can be the most exciting aspect of a hobby. It^s evident that those who collect coins or stamps learn much about the history and culture of many countries. As for me, at the moment I^m very busy with all my studies, as this is my last year at school. I spend a lot of my time getting ready for my exams. That^s why I don^t have much free time. However, my main hobby is reading books. Sometimes I also like making things. Making things includes drawing, painting, making sculpture, designing costumes, handicrafts, etc. Some people also write music or poetry. Two of the most famous hobby painters were President Eisenhower and Sir Winston Churchill. When I was a little girl, my hobby was embroidering. I still have nice embroidered pictures of a snowman and forget-me-nots. I am also very interested in modern music such as underground and alternative. Once in a while I try to go to a concert of one of my favourite groups. I can^t imagine my life without music. I have played the piano for about 2 years, and I enjoy it tremendously. I try to play the piano at least a couple of hours a week. Modern life in our industrialized world would be very difficult without sport. For example, every Saturday I go to a sport centre and spend a couple of hours working out there. I^ve also been playing tennis for three years now. And I certainly don^t forget about swimming. I go to the swimming pool whenever I can spare a moment. And finally, I would like to say that as soon as I graduate from the university, I hope to spend more time on all my hobbies. TO BE CONTINUED
