Energy saving

Energy saving is achieved mainly by reducing the number of cooling / heating / cooling operations, and by using of gas or vapor produced by heating and / or energy production. For example: 10 years ago, some Italian miniplants used hot water in fishing. Some examples of potential energy savings:

· Hot metalized pellets in DSP: reducing energy consumption by 15% (Figure 9):

· Endless rolling technology for section mills:

· Technology flexible thin slab casting + rolling in the production of flat-rolled products;

· Hot download cast billets in a heating furnace

· Heat treatment threading

· Blast furnaces of the new generation of low to 220-250 kg / t of coke consumption with increasing the consumption of O2 and coal

The starting materials

Starting materials is one of the most important components influencing on the competitiveness of steel production. Growth in demand for them today and in the future makes the priority of this factor and makes manufacturers with a complete metallurgical cycle at least partially insure their raw material needs by buying iron mines and / or entering into long-term supply contracts. There is a growing interest in developing partnerships with mines in Africa and / or their direct purchase, despite local concerns with management companies. To reduce the consumption of raw materials, we focus on the following aspects:

· Increase yield on installations on the starting materials;

· Improve the mechanical properties of steel to have less weight in the previous performance.

The purpose of this article is to examine the issues in general terms, so I do not stop on the numerous technological factors contributing to this improvement. Scrap will always be available, but you need to improve its quality before filling and DSP. More precisely, it should become clearer and have a proper size distribution. This will reduce emissions and energy consumption of DSP by almost 10%. In this case, a new generation of equipment designed for cutting scrap.

Transport

Demand growth and consequently the price growth of oil have led to a significant rise in the cost of transport. The situation will change only after a proportional increase of the number of cargo ships. These factors contributed to the diversification of production and markets, and manufacturer's choices of the products for these markets, which are removed from the place of origin. Unlike past time, logistics has become a decisive factor when choosing a place for new plants, as depend on it for transportation costs (preferably on the coast, near the port, which can accommodate vessels of class Panamax, on large rivers or near) and optimization of equipment handling.

Conclusion

This article aims to stimulate reflection on the impact of the rapid growth in steel consumption for its producers (apart from job satisfaction with maximum load and high profitability). Besides of the situation 4-5-year old producer priorities shifted significantly and in the first place they put materials, energy, transportation and the impact of their activities on the environment, which in some cases have become strategically more important than competitive of steel. In any case, competitiveness is the result of low energy consumption and, consequently, lowers emissions, as well as large-scale production of high quality products
