Before Installation Begins

Review the approved site plan to confirm lot lines, wall location, length and elevations.

• Confirm the on-site soils. For walls built in clay or poor soils, work with a local engineer to confirm the wall design and the required soil reinforcement.

• Call the local utility companies to confirm the location of underground utilities. Make sure to consider the reinforced zone location.

• Obtain all necessary building permits. Verify local building code requirements. An approved plan may be needed to obtain a building permit for walls above a certain height, with structures or other walls above the wall, or in poor soil conditions.

• For wall locations adjacent to property lines at some point in the future a surcharge may affect the stability of the structure. Contact the Engineer of Record to ensure that additional loading has been accounted for.

• Consider drainage and water management to avoid erosion or buildup of water behind the wall. See page 11 for more information on water management.
