Everyone wants to be healthy and fit so I am not an exception. I think sport plays an important role in achieving this goal. I’ve been practicing sport through all my school years. I liked my physical training lessons and tried not to miss them. Though I can’t boast of my great progress I think my time was not wasted. I became stronger and more energetic, more self-controlled and self-disciplined. I became more self-confident and sociable and it helped me to make friends. My favourite sports are football, table-tennis, gymnastics, biathlon and hockey. I am not only a fan of these sports but I am also eager to play a game or two, whenever I have a chance. To keep fit I also don’t forget about my morning exercises. Almost every day I do jogging. To my mind jogging is a good way of keeping fit. Our life becomes more and more comfortable and that is the reason why the need for us to go in for sports is so pressing.

I fully agree that bad habits like smoking, drinking alcohol, drug-taking, overeating and others do a lot of harm to our health. One out of 10men in the world is a smoker and every 8 seconds someone dies because of this bad habit. More than 40 diseases are associated with smoking; it increases the risk of cancer, bronchitis, heart diseases. Vitamin C is destroyed by smoking. This is the reason why an active smoker usually looks older than their non-smoker friend. According to studies, an active smoker is likely to live 14 years less than a non smoker. Deciding to stop smoking is deciding to choose healthy way of life.

A good way of keeping fit is to go to the gym or to the stadium. But also you can do jogging. The important thing here is not to overdo it. The other way is to take up swimming. You can do swimming all the year round. This kind of sport will help you to relax from hard work, improve your mood and of course will keep you fit and strong.

I fully agree that sport develops character and team work.It also makes people more organized, better disciplined, self-confident and sociable. Sport is also a means of relaxation and entertainment, a way of spending leisure time or building up health. For some people sport is a road to records, titles and fame. For example, the names of V.Azarenko and D. Domrycheva are known all over the world. For others sport s a big business as it brings profit. But the main function of sport is to make people healthy.
