Philip Newell

Philip Newell has started to work in musical business in 1966 in the native city of Blackburn, England. Initially, it was sound engineer and worked with "a live" sound. In 1968 he moved to London where worked with many widely known musicians, and in 1969 constructed recording studio Majestic. In 1970 he joined Pye Records company. It was one of the largest studios in the country. The following stage the post of the chief engineer in company Virgin Records, and in 1973 he became technical director of the company. In 1982 Philip Newell left this post and soy the part of shares of company. For some time he was fond of flights on amphibians. In 1984 Philip bases sound recording branch in company Reflexion Arts, and since 1988 he works as the independent adviser for acoustics and electroacoustics.

Philip Newell has been designed over 170 sound departments, and also a considerable quantity of cinemas, musical clubs, discos, concert halls, television studios and mobile studio complexes. For 30 years he has been participating in set of records as the system engineer, engineer of a sound recording and the producer. Its experience covers art and technical aspects in extremely wide spectrum of music: from solo tool parties to the big musical collectives, orchestras and rock groups.

Today Philip lives in Spain. He is – a member of Institute of Acoustics, a member of the Society of audio-engineers (AES), and with 1987 he actively participated in many projects of Institute of Researches of Vibration and the Sound (ISVR) at Sautgempton`s university in England. In ISVR it assisted many students in a writing of theses, carrying out of researches for candidate and theses for a doctor's degree on a studio sound recording and sound absorption systems.

He has acted as the producer of the well-known concert double album of Mike Oldfield ‘Exposed’, and in 1976 he has prepared an album remix ‘ Tubular Bells ’ for quad release. Being responsible for building such studios, as Townhouse in 1978, it in parallel projected numerous private studios and has made a considerable quantity of records by means of mobile sound recording complexes, such as Manor Mobile. By means of this complex of Philip has carried out the first-ever 24-channel record from "a live" concert.

Philip Newell is the author more than twenty editions of Institute of acoustics and the Society of audio engineers, he has written more than 100 articles for specialised aviation and musical editions. In the past it also was the pilot-instructor on amphibians and participated in many avia-shows.

Это была одна из крупнейших студий в стране. Следующий этап – должность главного инженера в компании Virgin Records (1971г.), а в 1973г. он становится техническим директором этой компании. В 1982г. Филип Ньюэлл покидает этот пост и распродаёт свою часть акций компании. На некоторое время он увлекается полётами на самолётах-амфибиях. В 1984г. В ISVR он оказывал помощь многим студентам в написании дипломных работ, проведении исследований для кандидатских и докторских диссертаций по студийной звукозаписи и системам звукопоглощения.

Он выступил продюсером знаменитого концертного двойного альбома Майка Олдфилда (Mike Oldfield) ‘Exposed’, а в 1976г. подготовил ремикс альбома ‘Tubular Bells’ для квадрофонического выпуска. Отвечая за строительство таких студий, как Townhouse в 1978г., он параллельно проектировал многочисленные частные студии в домах музыкантов и сделал большое количество записей с помощью передвижных звукозаписывающих комплексов, таких как Manor Mobile. Именно с помощью этого комплекса Филип осуществил первую в мире 24-канальную запись с «живого» концерта.
