© Tom Hiddleston

© Tom Hiddleston

ü Мы все живем в великолепное время! Мы можем писать музыку, готовить еду, рисовать картины, заниматься искусством и любовью с невероятной, беспрецедентной свободой. Это все - здесь, только возьми и сделай. © Tom Hiddleston

ü Katie: If you were taking a date out in London on Valentine’s Day, where would you go? Tom: Well now that would be telling, wouldn’t it? I think if you’re going to be conventionally romantic you’ve got to go all the way: a beautiful dinner somewhere lovely, with boat-loads of flowers, chocolates and champagne. But it might also be nice to wrap up warm and sit on a roof somewhere, with a cup of hot soup and your girl, watch the planes come in over London and listen to the night.

ü — What does he fear? — I have a terrible fear of wasting time," he replies, before pausing to consider the question further. "Who knows? Maybe I should relax a bit. Maybe working too hard is wasting time. I have a fear of regret. I’m not afraid of death, although I know that sounds odd.

ü While we were filming Thor, Anthony Hopkins once leant over and whispered, «You know, all the great actors – James Mason, Robert Mitchum, Peter O’Toole, Richard Burton – they were all such open, charming, optimistic people, but they each had a little suitcase of pain, and that’s what made them great.» I have lived out of many suitcases, and it’s my frequent professional obligation to turn up on set and excavate some pain. Sometimes you have to go a long way round the houses to come home. © Tom Hiddlston

ü However, this appointment was with a doctor who offered a little more than medical advice. «He was knocking on my knees with his hammer to test my reactions and he said, ‘do you have family?’ and I said, ‘I have a family but I don’t have children,’ he said, ‘Do you want children?’ and I said, ‘Yes, very much one day.’ and he said, ‘it’s amazing, I’m in my mid-60s and I’m pleased to say that life has got immeasurably better with every decade, and I know how lucky I am because lots of people can’t say that, because for them life gets worse, but you see the thing is, the question that eludes most of us is ‘Who are we really?’…It was incredible because he was saying that’s the grit in the pearl of the oyster- if you can get through all the other stuff about life, paying the bills and trying to do the right thing and basically looking after yourself and living with dignity, then the fun stuff is trying to answer that question.» © Tom Hiddlston

ü There was a time I loved to do romantic things, and I quite liked it. I had a girlfriend at university, she studied French and Italian, we were dating for some time. And her study included living and working in Paris for 6 months. She asked me to go to Paris on the weekend with her and help to settle down. I told her that I couldn’t because I had a very important audition which I couldn’t shift. To tell the truth my movie career was depended on this audition in that moment. I was told to come there on Saturday evening and if I hadn’t shown up I would have never got my hand near it. On Saturday I was on my way to the studio but I turned around in the last moment and went to King’s Cross, took the “Eurostar” and darted to Paris. Of course, I decided to come as a surprise and while riding I stayed connected with her friend. At last I was in Paris and by her friend’s tip-off I found them in the Luxembourg Gardens where they were buying an ice cream. My girlfriend was standing in front of a stand with different flavours of ice cream and couldn’t decide which one to choose. I came, stood up behind her and gently whispered: “It’s a hard choice, isn’t it?” There was more sense and irony for me in this phrase that it might seem at first sight. My deed was even too romantic as my girlfriend had almost fainted from fear. Since then I’ve become more careful in romantic actions. Who knows how my career would have formed if I had gone to that audition? © Tom Hiddleston

ü I was never the clown at school, I had some really rebellious classmates when I was at school. I’ve always been quite internally rebellious. I think everybody at school thought I was going to become a teacher; it was a massive misjudgment of my character. Which maybe reflects that I never played all my cards, I kept them close to my chest. I guess that is somehow like Loki in some way. There is a distance. He is watching everything all the time from a distance. I guess I’m a bit like that. © Tom Hiddleston

ü I think I started acting because I found being away at school while my parents were divorcing really distressing,” says the 31-year-old, “It’s only now I’ve got a retrospective angle on it. When you are a teenager, suddenly you start harbouring secrets in a different way. If you are at a boys’ school, especially, there is a level of bravado that you have to keep up otherwise you’ll get picked on. I was really quite upset, and probably very sad and vulnerable and angry. Acting presented a way of expelling those feelings in a safe place. © Tom Hiddleston

ü I’ve been in this business for 12 years, and worked very, very hard, and it hasn’t been easy, and there have been times where I’ve been wrong for parts and I’ve been rejected, or felt like rejection, and you have to literally get up and dust yourself off and have another go. So to be here now, to be here today, is a huge, huge honor. © Tom Hiddleston

ü If you try to respond positively to the world, you’ll spend your time better. If you respond negatively, you might one day look back and say, ‘why did i spend the whole time complaining? Why didn’t I acknowledge the stuff I have, never mind the stuff I didn’t have?’ I’m a glass-half-full person, simply because it’s a better use of my time. © Tom Hiddleston

ü For me, acting is all about shape-shifting. Acting is an adventure of curiosity. With every character I play, I am discovering something new about the human condition that I do not possess innately myself. To me, with every role I play, it’s like going to a foreign country. It’s no better or worse, just different. © Tom Hiddleston

ü My dad made himself from the ground up. So, once, you’ve seen that, someone who’s come from nothing trying their highest to give their child the best education and then you get out the other side and everyone throws fruit at you…He’s seen that it take’s six months to make a Thor film. I’ve described my working process to him; the fact that, some days, I get up at four in the morning and don’t get home until nine at night, and he’s absolutely acknowledged that that’s real work. © Tom Hiddleston

ü Actors in any capacity, artists of any stripe, are inspired by their curiosity, by their desire to explore all quarters of life, in light and in dark, and reflect what they find in their work. Artists instinctively want to reflect humanity, their own and each other’s, in all its intermittent virtue and vitality, frailty and fallibility. © Tom Hiddleston

ü I kept a diary, with all the details of every audition. After about three months, I had to stop, because it was a catalog of failure, a long list of jobs I had failed to get.© Tom Hiddleston

ü Stay hungry, stay young, stay foolish, stay curious, and above all stay humble, because just when you think you’ve got all the answers is the moment when some bitter twist of fate in the universe will remind you that you very much don’t. © Tom Hiddleston

ü For myself, for a long time… maybe I felt inauthentic or something, I felt like my voice wasn’t worth hearing, and I think everyone’s voice is worth hearing. So if you’ve got something to say, say it from the rooftops. © Tom Hiddleston

ü Never, ever let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do. Prove the cynics wrong. Pity them for they have no imagination. The sky’s the limit. Your sky. Your limit. © Tom Hiddleston

ü Haters never win. I just think that’s true about life, because negative energy always costs in the end. © Tom Hiddleston

ü You never know what’s around the corner. It could be everything. Or it could be nothing. You keep putting one foot in front of the other, and then one day you look back and you’ve climbed a mountain. © Tom Hiddleston

ü No such thing as original thought. We are shadows of stars that burned before our time. © Tom Hiddleston

ü I’ve always aspired to be a better man than I am. And I’m nowhere near there yet. So I’d like to, rather sentimentally, dedicate this award to my mum, for making me the man that I am. - upon receiving the Man Of The Year award. © Tom Hiddleston

ü I believe in the strength and intelligence and sensitivity of women. © Tom Hiddleston

ü A villain is in control. A villain is a mask of elegance and style, behind which is a whirring and brilliant intelligence. But the trick is to make it all look easy. © Tom Hiddleston

ü I’m thankful for the fact that life is generally pretty damn amazing if you let it be. © Tom Hiddleston

ü Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. © Tom Hiddlston

ü When I get angry with myself, when I forget lines, I’ll be like ‘You absolute fucking fuck cock bollocks piss fuck. You, you…fucker’. © Tom Hiddlston
