N:I know me vowels. I knew ‘em before I come.

My Fair Lady

S: Say your vowels.

N: I know me vowels. I knew ‘em before I come.

S: If you know them, say them.

N: Ahyee, e, iye, ow, you.

S: A, E, I, O, U.

N: That’s what I said. Ahyee, e, iye, ow, you. That’s what I’ve said for three days an’ I won’t no more.

S: Say “A.”

N: You ain’t got no ‘eart, you ain’t.

S: “A.”

N: “A.”

S: “A.”

N: “A.”

S: “A.”

N: “A.”

S: All right, Eliza, say it again.

N: “The rine in Spine stais minely in pline”

S: “The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.”

N: Didn’t I saily that?

S: No, Eliza, you didn’t “saiy” that. You didn’t even “say” that. Every night before you go to bed, where you used to say your prayers, I want you to say: “The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.” Fifty times. You’ll get much further with the Lord if you learn not to offend His ears.

S: (кладет камни в рот) Four. Five. Six marbles. I want you to read this and want you to enunciate every word just as if the marbles were not in your mouth. “With blackest moss, the flower pots were thickly crusted, one and all.” Each word, clear as a bell.

N: (с полным ртом камней!)“With blackest moss, the flower pots. I can’t!

S: Go on, Eliza.

N: (с полным ртом камней!)“ “With blackest moss, the flower pots were thickly crusted, one and all.”

S: I can’t understand a word, not a word.

N: (с полным ртом камней!)“ “With blackest moss, the flower pots were thickly crusted, one and all.”

S: What’s the matter?

N: I swallowed one.

S: It doesn’t matter. I’ve got a plenty more. Open your mouth. One, two…

N: I can’t! I’m so tired! I’m so tired!

S: But think what you’re trying to accomplish. Just think hat you’re dealing with. The majesty and grandeur of the English language… it’s the greatest possession we have. The noblest thoughts that ever flowed through the hearts of men are contained in its extraordinary, imaginative and musical mixtures of sounds. And that’s what you’ve set yourself out to conquer, Eliza. And conquer it you will….. Now try again.

N: “The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.”

S: What was that?

N: “The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.”

S: I think she’s got it. I think she’s got it.

S: We’re making fine progress. I think the time has come to try her out. You must put down your books and go to bed.

Song “Bed! Bed! I couldn’t go to bed”

Hurray!

The End!
