Post-War World

There is no doubt that World War 2 was as a terrible facture for 20th centure experience as the first. In fact it’s impact on world history human consciousness and artistic expression was great. After war’s outbreak in 1939 nightmarish fantasis began to unfold. It was the biggest battle-field in the history. Large regions of Europe saw occupations by foreign tpoups. The intentions and dids of tatalitarian rigims proved the greemest prediction. By the war’s end in 1945 many European cities were ruined, industrial activities stopped. Survives and retupned prisoners wondered the landscape of senceless borders and broken regims.

Donald Watt: “ Realism is not actually dissolusionment was the order of the day. “Warst was forward: the unbelievable facts about the depotation, massacre, that had occurred in notion concentration eamps. It was emarged that 6 mln jews had perished in Holocost. The consciousnes of allies was not clear. As a result of Anglo-American researches into the atomic and it’s power the war ended with another “Holocost”. The dropping of atomic weapon on the cities of Herosima and Nagasaki. Thus the end of the war was the beginning of the atomic centure. Now begun N. H. Austen wrighting him diagnostic poems in New-York call in 1947 “The age of anxiety”. 40 years later Martin Amis still said that he wrote in overpowering time of the Einstein's monster meaning the nuclear age.

The Holocost and The Nuclear Age dominated the sensability of the period and political tensions continued and The Hot War turned into The Cold War. The mood of anxiety horror apocaliptic danger increased. In 1946 W. Cherchil announced that iron curtain destroyed. Next year the term “Cold War” appeared. Europe was cut not only geographically but ideologically split between the influence of two super powers: the USA and the Soviet Union. Each represented fundamental 20-centure ideology: democratic liberal capitalism and totalitarian communism. Even the power of space travel had a military meaning. Much of the progressive optimism about modernity begun to fail. The human hopes oh the 30th seemed naive illusions. If Eropeas capitals, economics and political sistems lay in ruins, so did it’s intelectual, metaphysical, ideological and cultral values. It’s ideas of the self, the state history, art, God and evil. In countries that have been occupied defeated there was a need of complete ideological reconstruction. Accusations of treachere, the tranison decleres were wide spread. In France many writers were seen as collaborators. Questions of allegince and commitments became central. Events in Eastern Europe went grim. Stalin’s armies “labirated” many countries. Many writers and thinkers protested against totalitarism. Thus in 1941 6 writers published a book called “The God that Failed”.

The Post-War world knew that was post many things: post-Holocost, post-atomic, post-ideological, post-humannist, post-political, post-modern. Post-modernism became a very influention term. Modernism was over. Wolf, Freyd were dead. In critical circles modernism was history sised. Many ideas of modernism were taintend. The world heeded something else. Lionel Trilling called for “moral realism” is a renewed awareness of the danger of history, the unreliability of human nature, “The Tragic Sence of Life”. Either religion or novel should know speak to the soul in this difficult age. But many writers were now silent.

George Steiner: “We come afterand that is the nerve of our condition. After the unprecidented, ruin of human values and hopes by the political, rigidity of our age”.

Teodor Adorno: “No poetry after Auschwitz when the post-war acts began to appear they often found language, form and literarly humanism, indiqvate to deal with the horrest committed. But they had to disprite them.”
