Young, active and unemployed. Youth unemployment is above 20 % and constantly growing. Consequently, unpaid internship are becoming popular, how can the EU protect the rights of young workforce from cases of abuse

The European Youth Parliament,

A. Noting with regret the lack of guarantee for young people to receive official employment after the end of internship,

B. Alarmed by the unfavourable working conditions for the interns, such as:

i) Cases of underpaid or unpaid internships,

ii) Interns being overwhelmed with work, which is not valued accordingly,

iii) Deeply concerned with the lack of safety measures on workplaces and the cases of interns abuses,

C. Emphasising permanent violation of the labour law,

D. Keeping in mind the lack of competitiveness of some students or young graduates in the labour market;

1. Calls for the equal work condition and reasonable payments for everyone regardless of the age, colour, gender, experience,

2. Recommends employers to sign fair work contracts that would guarantee future employment for the interns,

3. Encourages existing organisations to conduct fair competition for the employees, to support the work grants and to invest into various internship programs,

4. Invites the companies to include Corporate social responsibility (CSR) into their activities

5. Calls upon the National Governments to provide secure atmosphere for young employees of their countries,

6. Draws attention to the need of including more practical skills into educational programme.
