The coat of arms of the United Kingdom

The coat of arms of the United Kingdom

Every country has the coat of arms. Every coat of arms has an important symbolical meaning. Let’s look at the coat of arms of the UK.

We see two animals: the lion and the unicorn. They are holding the shield.

The lion is a symbol of the Monarchy and at the same time it is a symbol of strength and power. You can see that the lion is wearing the crown. The unicorn is a mythical creature, it symbolizes history and rich cultural heritage.

The shield has 4 parts: the first and fourth parts show three lions that guard England; in the second, the lion of Scotland; and in the third, a harp – a symbol of Northern Ireland.

The eagle is a symbol of America. This bird symbolizes glory and power. The eagle is holding 13 arrows and an olive branch in its talons. They symbolize the idea that “America has a strong desire for peace, but is always ready for war”.

The coat of arms also includes some elements from the American flag (stars and stripes).

There is a scroll with the motto E pluribus unum ("Unity is Power" in Latin).
