Report on conference participation

REPORT ON CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION

Choose sessions and presentations that are interesting for you and preferably relevant to the topic of your master thesis: http://conf.hse.ru/en/2015/program/

Your report should include analysis of at least 2 presentations given at the conference (you can attend more, and then decide which once you want to analyze). For the report you need to choose empirical studies, not theoretical overviews. It will help if you ask presenters to share their.ppt presentation with you, so you don’t have to write down every single detail of the talk.

Structure of the report:

1. Title page

2. Presentation 1.

· Presenter’s name, affiliation, topic of the presentation

· Why did you decide to attend this talk?

· Short description of the study presented

o The goal of the study

o Research questions or hypothesis

o Theoretical background of the study

o Research design and measures

o Methods of data analysis

o Findings and its interpretation

· Evaluation of the study presented

o Clarity of the presentation

o Logic (structure of the presentation)

o Consistency of the goal(s) with RQ/hypotheses, theory, design and methods

o Profoundness and relevance of the theoretical background

o Quality of the research design and measurement

o Appropriateness of the methods of data analysis

o Adequacy of the interpretation of findings

4. Conclusion:

· Positive experience: what did you learn from these studies/presentations? What can you use later for your own research or presentations?

· Negative experience: what mistakes did you notice? What would you avoid in your own research or presentations?
