Reading
One thing I can’t stand is travelling by Tube, especially at rush hour. The crush of people, the smell and the heat are all terrible. I think I suffer a bit from claustrophobia and on seeing the doors close I often start to panic a bit. I normally take the bus to work, which isn’t as fast as the underground but I’d sooner be a few minutes late than be crushed up against other people underground. I used to take the car when I first started the job in the city, but that was awful. The traffic was awful and it was next to impossible to park once I got there. I’m not much of an environmentalist but I felt really bad about how much I was helping to pollute the atmosphere. I even got a car share scheme going with two of my neighbours for a while. It didn’t last long though – one of them moved away and the other lost interest – I’m not sure why. My wife is always going on about me using the bike more. I always tell her I’d be even later if I cycled, but she says I may as well get some exercise on the way to work. She’s right, it might help to keep me fit, but then the other problem is the weather. I don’t fancy getting to work with my feet wet every morning. If only I lived in a warm country! |
