Dear Mary,

Thank you for the letter! Terrible news about your doctor’s prescription!

As for me, I am keen on eating caramel sweets, cakes with strawberry and milk chocolate with nuts. It’s so difficult to imagine even one day in my life without some desserts because at school I usually have a cup of coffee with roll or doughnut for a quick snack. Actually there are different variants to have a meal at out canteen. For instance, one my classmate takes omelet with hum and slice of toast as usual. Everyone at school enjoys break time.

By the way, how have your final tests gone? Was it difficult or you were well-prepared? What are your results? I sincerely hope you’ve done your best!

Essay

Many people are in favor of idea that hosting international sport events is beneficial in many ways. Nonetheless, not everyone agrees with this point of view.

In my opinion, preparing for such significant events like Olympic Games or world championship is rather expensive so it is not real beneficial for the country because these money and recourses could be spent on helping poor people, persons with disabilities and orphans. Moreover, there are also a lot of young families, inexperienced students, war veterans and others who need state’s supporting. Unfortunately, Russian Government often thinks not about ordinary people and their poverty-stricken life but about such projects like building Olympic objects in Sochi spending a great amount of state budget for that. In addition, such actions are often accompanied by terrorism that hurts people both physically and mentally.

However, some people maintain that it is rather beneficial to host international sport events. First of all, they claim these competitions attract foreign diplomats and investors to cooperate with ours. Secondly, many different nations with their own cultures meet each other at the same place cheering for one team so it helps to make connections between world nationalities. Apart from this, prestige and credibility of the country that makes such events is growing.

That may be true but I am afraid I do not agree because all opponents’ aspects raise the level of the state in the international arena, but there is domestic policy too and I am sure it is wrong to conduct one policy over another. In the first place for all citizens is of course protection, but if everything in the world is okay in the second place is their style of live: salary, pension, taxes, the quality of education and medicine, caring for the destitute.

Taking everything into account, I would like to notice that this question is interesting enough for discussion because it has both beneficial aspects or useless.
