The city of Gusev (till 1946 – Gumbinnen) has

the richest historical heritage. The originality

of a history and architecture favourably distinguish our city from other Russian ones.

The town Gusev is located on crossing of railway main ways, has a through connect with Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Chelyabinsk (Russia), Gomel (Byelorussia), Kharkov (Ukraine). The network of highways is well advanced.

Gusev is situated on a place of merge of 2 rivers: the Krasnaya and the Pissa.

Historical and architectural sights, the foot and transport bridges, well-groomed quays, shady squares and park make city extraordinary charming and cosy.

In Gusev there are more than 150 monuments of history, culture and architecture.

One of the symbols of the city, of course, is the sculpture of Elk. The sculpture of this bronze giant was established in the city in 1912. After the Great Patriotic War it was in the Kaliningrad zoo. And only in 1991 the monument was returned to the city again and established in one of the main squares.

The main symbol – the former building of government Gumbinnen constructed in 1903. Today in its Research-and-production centre «AMATEL». The façade of the building is decorated with chiming clock marking new pages in a history of the city.

There is a bridge in the centre of our town. Its history is very interesting. It was built in 1734. In 1827 the bridge was rebuilt. In 1933 it was renovated again. Our river Pissa is in the centre of our town.

During the Second World War in 1945 the bridge was not so wide. In 1957 it was a reconstruction of the bridge. It was made by the builders of Gvardeisk and Kaliningrad.

Near the bridge the special tree for young helpmates was made.

On the 20-th of December there was a ceremony of opening of our bridge and there were many people and builders there. I saw how young husband was bringing his young wife through the new bridge to the Tree of Happiness and they put their lock on the Tree of Happiness. We are sure their life will be happy!

Our town took the first place in the competition “The Cleanest City” in our region and had the right to fight for the first place in the competition “The Cleanest City in Russia”.

Kaliningradskaya oblast is the West of Russia. The students of our school in Gusev took part in some projects with the students of Poland and Germany. We are proud of our town and its people. We want you to know more about Gusev.
