Kiev is an amazing city, that is located on the main river of our country Dnieper in the north of Ukraine. It has an unusual and impressive history. We don’t know exactly the date when Kiev was founded. It happened in the 6^th or 7^th century. There are a lot of legends about the foundation of this city. Kiev was built on the three hills and according to the myth was named after one of it’s founders the eldest of three brothers Kiy. There was also a small river that was named after their sister Lybed. In the 9^th century Kiev became the capital of the medieval Kievan Rus state. Many times the city was attacked by Petchenegs – the nomads. It continued to be the main city and the cultural center of pagan and later Slavic religion until the Mongol invasion in the 13^th century. At that time it was destroyed by invaders and a lot of defenders died under the ruins of the Tithe Church that was built in the times of Duke Vladimir. Kiev again reborn in the times of Cossacks. It again became the center of education in the 15^th century. It also was the arena of the Great Patriotic War in the 20^th century and it was handed over to German according to the order of Marshal Zhukov. Today it is still the capital of Ukraine and the center of Slavic religion. There are a lot of churches, cathedrals such as St. Andrew's Church, Kievo Pecherska Lavra where the Orthodox shrines are stored. It is famous because of the monument Mather the Land, square of independence, and the main street Khreschatyk. There are a lot of comfortable transport such as buses, trolleybuses, taxes, minibuses, ships, metro and even funicular. There a lot of different stores to enjoy shopping or window shopping. Probably you will be fascinated by the great views of Dnieper. As for me I have never been in Kiev, but I think that it will be interesting for everyone to visit it.
