A city profile: My native town Moskovsky .

A city profile: My native town Moskovsky.

A project on English by Ivan Pakhomov 11 “B”

Moskovsky is a town in Moskovsky Settlement of Moscow. The town of Moskovsky was formerly located in Leninsky District of Moscow Oblast, Russia, and since July 2012 it is a part of the federal city of Moscow. It is located 8 kilometres southwest from the Moscow Ring Road and 5 kilometres east from Vnukovo International Airport alongside Kievsky federal throughway.

It was founded in 1969 as a rural locality around the agricultural greenhouse complex “ Agrokombinat Moskovsky” on the place of the former village Peredeltsy. The settlement was named due to the fact that the Soviet farm was located on the territory of Moscow region.

The town status was granted only in 2004. On July 1, 2012 Moskovsky was transferred to the city of Moscow and became a part of Novomoskovsky Administrative Okrug.

A bus service connects the town with the Yugo-Zapadnaya and Troparyovo stations of the Moscow Metro, Vnukovo International Airport and some other localities. And two more underground stations Rumyantsevo and Salaryevo are being built in the nearest time. That is only five minutes from the town.

Surrounded by Ulyanovsky and Valuevsky forest parks with lots of natural ponds, springs and rivers, Moskovsky is situated in one of the most ecological and green areas of Moscow region. Absence of industrial objects, fast development of the infrastructure and neighbourhood to Moscow makes the place attractive for newcomers from all over the country including Muscovites.

Living in a place like that makes your life less stressful because of a perfect mixture of urban modern facilities, rich variety of job opportunities and possibility to dwell a quiet life in a picturesque suburb. Some problems connected with a lack of good roads and traffic jams in the morning when a lot of people go to the centre to work can be resolved with the end of the construction.

The town consists of four districts: district 1, district 2 (Institute of Poliomyelitis settlement), district 3 ("southwestern") and district 4 ("the city of Moscow"), the 5-th district (project name - "the First Moscow City Park) is being built at the moment. The total population is over 24000 people. The construction of multi-storey houses with its own infrastructure in place of the first and second lines of the greenhouses started in 2011 will increase the population up to 37000 by the end of 2016.

Some of the local old residents consider the town a bit overcrowded these days, as they remember the time when there were only 45 houses and 18000 citizens in the town and the atmosphere of the place was like in a big village where everybody knows everyone.

District 1

District 1 is a historical part of the town. The first five-storey blocks of flats were built in the mid 60-ies of XX century. With the 9 and 16 storey buildings it includes a secondary school, a stadium, a swimming pool, a football club of third division “Rosich” with a football pitch, a sports school, a music and art school, 4 preschools, 3 supermarkets, a fruit and vegetables market, some shops, restaurants and cafes, a post office, 2 banks, local council and authorities offices, public service offices, a marvelous leisure centre (“Dvorets Kultury Moskovsky”), the Church Of St. Tikhon and a War memorial nearby. With the end of such large-scale construction and improvement of the districts, the town will get 10 schools, 16 preschools, an ice-skating palace, 2 sports schools, 2 hospitals, 2 churches and a cathedral and others.

It’s interesting to know that the only district that has the streets names is № 4. One of the streets is named “Georgievskaya”. And it is not a coincidence, previously in the place of the former village Peredeltsy there was the St. George's Church, which was demolished in the 50-ies of XX century. In 2010, a Memorial cross was erected on the approximate place where the altar of the destroyed temple was. And a new temple is being rebuilt into the St. George cathedral for religious services for orthodox citizens in district 3.

There are some more famous historical and cultural cites close to the place. Among them: 1. War memorial, "the graves of red army soldiers and commanders", the author of the obelisk of Suslikov Nicholas;
2. Military memorial "Eternal memory of soldiers fallen in the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945" in Peredeltsevsky cemetery;
3. Tomb of the Decembrist Vladimir Tolstoy in Peredeltsevsky cemetery. A well known architectural landmark “Valuevo”, that is twenty minutes walk from district 4, is strongly recommended to all tourists as a beautiful example of a noble estate and a place where some wonderful Russian films based on Russian classical authors such as Leo Tolstoy, A. P. Chekhov and even Soviet classics Arkady Guydar’s “Timur and his team” were filmed.

Though the town has got a rather short history (in September 2009, Moskovsky celebrated its fortieth anniversary), nevertheless the citizens revere the memory of fallen heroes and veterans and venerate traditions and culture of our region. Two school museums were organized and now exist: the Museum of military glory of 70-th shooting division (the museum was opened in 70-ies by a veteran of this division, and was held for many years by his widow, it has been awarded the best school museum of Moscow region for many times) and the Museum of the military glory of the heroes of the Fatherland that was opened in October 2014 at a new school in district 4 within the programme of celebration the seventieth anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45.

Besides there is a wonderful Museum of the History of national culture, that was formed by all citizens who presented the museum the artifact of Russian national peasant life from their own families. A cultural-educational club for primary school pupils bases upon it at the leisure centre. That is another point to be proud of the place I live in, as it is a real centre of culture, education, sport and entertainment in the area. There is really plenty to do around in the town: club formations, evening classes, facilities to practice sport and go out, including eat out, that’s why there is little crime in the area, I think.

I really like living in my place. The one thing I can recommend our local authorities to improve is development of higher education in a place. I think it can be in demand among young people of the town.
