Corruption in Higher Education in Kazakhstan 12

The first chart shows the percentage of students who personally met with corruption in their university. 80 percent of answered students of Kazakh National University personally met with corruption, while 20 percent didn’t met with it. The second chart shows the percentage of students who know about FinPol as a body which fights against corruption. 30 percent of students answered that they know about the existence of this body, at the same time 75 percent out of them didn’t personally met with corruption. 70 percent of students answered that they don’t know about the existence of such state body, however 80 percent of them personally met with corruption in their university. Thus, these table shows that a lot of students who met with corruption personally don’t know about the existence of this state body.

Chart 3.Reasons of existence of problem of corruption in universities.

This chart shows the reasons of existence of this problem in Kazakhstan according to the answers of students. The biggest percentage of students, 60%, answered that both low salaries of professors and unpunishability of crimes are the major causes of the problem, while at the same time the fewest percentage of students think that only unpunishability of crimes is the major cause of corruption. The average number of students, 30%,think that only low salaries of professors is the major cause of corruption in higher education universities in Kazakhstan. Thus, the most effective solution would be that, which eliminates both causes at the same time.

 

Chart 4.Percentage of students who think that higher salaries for faculty will solve this problem.

This bar chart shows the percentage of students who think that this problem could be solved by increasing wages for faculty in universities. 90% of answered students think that this step will eliminate corruption in higher education universities in Kazakhstan, while only 10% think that this is not effective solution. This shows that the solution of increasing wages for professors is good.

Chart 5. Percentage of students who think that execution of punishments for corruption crimes by university administration will solve this problem.

This pie chart shows the percentage of students who think that execution of punishments for corruption should be done by university administration. 75% of answered students think that this solution will eliminate this problem, while 25% of them think that it is not effective. This means that students see this solution to fight corruption in higher education as effective.
