My home town is Orenburg. It was founded in 1743 on the bank of the Ural river. Its geographical location is of particular interest. Orenburg stands on the boundary of Europe and Asia.

My home town is Orenburg. It was founded in 1743 on the bank of the Ural river. Its geographical location is of particular interest. Orenburg stands on the boundary of Europe and Asia.

Now Orenburg is a big regional centre with the population over 500 (hundred) thousand people. In 1966 tremendous gas fields have been discovered near Orenburg and now our town is one of the most important industrial centers in Russia.

Orenburg is famous for rich reserves of gas and oil as well as for wheat and fine goat down shawls. The first cosmonaut Yu. Gagarin left the Orenburg flying school. Many great men were in Orenburg such as Pushkin, Aksakov, Dahl, Tolstoy and many others. The Orenburg Folk Choir is known all over the world.

There are some sights in our town. The guests of Orenburg are usually shown the Caravan Saray. It was built in the 19-th century by the project of the talented Russian architect Biyulov. It was a commercial centre and now it is an architectural monument. There are monuments to Pushkin, Dal, Chkalov, Gagarin and others. There are two memorials to the Unknown Soldier one of which is in the Frunzee Park and the second one is in Pobeda Avenue.

We have three museums: The Museum of Local Lore. The Fine Arts Museum and the Pushkin Museum. There are three theatres: Drama Theatre, Musical Comedy Theatre and Puppet Show. We have many cinemas, Palaces of Culture and Libraries.

Orenburg has 5 higher schools: The Agricultural, Technical and Pedagogical Universities, The Medical Academy and The Academy of Law.

There are many medical institutions: hospitals, polyclinics.

The main street in Orenburg is Soviet Street. There are some old beautiful buildings in Soviet Street. Among them there are the House of Soviets, the building of the Orenburg Administration. Drama Theatreand others. In recent years many beautiful buildings have appeared in Orenburg: the Central Bank and some administrative offices. With every year Orenburg is becoming more beautiful.
