The Topic: Working with styles and lists in MS Word.

Aim of the work:

 

The objective

  1. Read information (topics #6 and #5 of lectures).
  2. Launch MS Word.
  3. Load from your flash disk the file Lectures.doc that was saved on the previous laboratory work.
  4. Insert into header (верхний колонтитул) current date field, file name field, and comment field with your name.
  5. Insert short abstract of topic (2-3 sentences) after the header of each topic.
  6. Create styles for heading and paragraphs of your document:

Heading 1 begins with word “Topic”. It must be written with such settings: Font=Times New Roman, Size=14, Bold; Paragraph alignment=Centered, Indent 1 cm, Spacing before=12, After=6. Create for it style My_style1.

Heading 2 must be written with such settings: Font=Times New Roman, Size=12, Bold Italic; Paragraph alignment=Left, Indent 1 cm, Spacing before=6, After=6; Numbered list of second level. Create for it style My_style2.

Heading 3 must be written with such settings: Font=Times New Roman, Size=12, Regular; Paragraph alignment=Left, Indent 1 cm, Spacing before=6, After=0; Numbered list of third level. Create for it style My_style3.

Paragraph “abstract” must be written with such settings: Font=Courier New, Size=10, Regular; Paragraph alignment=Justified, Indent 0 cm, Spacing before=6, After=6; Create for it style My_style4.

Regular paragraph must be written with such settings: Font= Times New Roman, Size=12, Regular; Paragraph alignment=Justified, Indent 1 cm, Spacing before=0, After=0; Create for it style My_style5.

  1. Define shortcut keys for new styles, e.g. Ctrl+1 for My_style1.
  2. Make formatting of paragraphs and headers of your document using your own styles by toolbar and shortcuts.
  3. Generate table of contents of your document.
  4. Add new topic to the beginning of your document. The name of the topic is “Computer basic architecture”. Create abstract paragraph about what is computer.
  5. Create regular paragraphs with definition of computer components using Figure 1.3 from the file lec1_2_Computer architecture.doc (e.g. System block, it’s components and definition of purpose, Input devices and their names and purpose, and so on).
  6. Format added information using numbered and bulleted lists.
  7. Format header and abstract paragraph of added topic using created styles.
  8. Make spell checking of your document.
  9. Update table of contents.
  10. Show to your teacher the results of every step of your work.
  11. Save document Lectures.doc on your flash disk.

All results during making the work you must show to your teacher. All results must be fixed in the report. After making the lab you must answer all questions proposed (page 3).

Contents of report:

  1. Number of the work, topic, aim of the work.
  2. Description of making every point of the task.
  3. Conclusion.
  4. Glossary of new terms.
