Prepare the oral part of the presentation as far in advance as possible to give yourself time to practice. Make an outline for each portion of your speech before writing the entire speech out. When

• Choose a spot in the middle. That way you can watch a few presentations and avoid their mistakes, but your audience isn't too bored by the time it's your turn.
• Make it your goal to have eye contact with every person by the time you're finished. Otherwise you're likely to look at the same person, or worse, the floor.
• Remember that power point is a tool for your audience, not your script. Your presentation should include much more than you put on the power point and your slides should not have too much text on them.
• If you make a mistake, don't worry about it. If you don't draw attention to it by correcting yourself, no one will notice and if they do, they'll quickly forget.
• Keep your hands below your shoulders so the audience does not get distracted.
• Try not to argue with your audience. This detracts from your presentation. Just tell them they have an interesting point and that you'll check and get back to them.
• Don't forget to look at everyone, not just the floor. Don't stare at anyone in particular but 'skim' the class.
• Have good posture. Don't cross or fold your arms, keep them open. Don't slouch and keep your back straight.
• Try to get the right level of formality in your speech, depending on what it is for and who you are presenting it to.
• Know that everyone watching you is so nervous about their own presentation, they're probably not listening much to yours!

Look in the mirror and speak up. One of the most difficult aspects of public speaking is projecting one's voice. If you practice with a tone everyone can easily hear, it becomes easier to give your presentation with that same volume.

Notice nervous habits and correct them during your rehearsal. Picking at your clothes, looking down, twisting your fingers in your hair and chewing gum are not acceptable during a presentation. Instead, picture what the classroom looks like and pretend you are speaking to the students and making eye contact.

Use your props to enhance your presentation. You are the presenter; the props are just the icing on the cake. Practice showing them from one side and then the other so the entire class can see.

Recruit a live practice audience for your presentation. The mirror is a good aid but real people are better. After you think you've rehearsed enough to show your family, ask them to take the time to listen and critique your presentation.

Stand up tall and walk with confidence to the front of the room when it's your turn. Smile and make eye contact with the teacher and the students.
