Hello everybody, dear judges, all the participants. My name is Diana I`m the 1^st speaker of our team. Let me introduce my colleagues: the second speaker is Ann and the third speaker is Nadya.

We`re glad to have the opportunity to discuss with you the topic “Television has bad influence” which is quite actual and important nowadays. So, first of all lets consider the definitions of the topic.

First of all, how do we understand the word TELEVISION? Television is the way of transmitting and receiving moving images that can be black-and-white or colored, with or without accompanying sound. It is also the industry, medium or art of television broadcasting. (MACMILLAN DICTIONARY)

The next. What does the word «BAD» means? Bad – is something that has a harmful effect; damages something.

And the last definition is «INFLUENCE». Influence is the power or ability of a person or thing to produce an effect on others.

We are the affirmative team and we agree that Television has bad influence.

So now we would like to present you our first argument which says that Television makes harm to human`s HEALTH both: physical and mental.

Everybody knows that TV spoils your eyesight, bearing, makes you lazy and fat, because instead of laying and watching, you could do some exercises, improving your body and mind.

Except these, Russian psychologist and the winner of American Council Award Mariya Lyahova discovered that:

All children, who watch Television for 2-3 hours a day have such symptoms as
• The worsening of memory
• Worsening of attention
• Worsening of logical thinking
• Weakening of the imagination developing.

As you know small kids till the age of 4 get the information about the world with a help of body. All the important functions, at this age,can be developed only with a help of movements. When parents turn on the TV set in order to make the child calm down and while watching a TV the kid doesn`t move very much as a result the 25 % of brains` structures, which could be in charge of logical thinking, won`t be developed.

• Television becomes a reason of people`s diseases.There was an event in China On the 16 of January in 1997 The children all over the country had epileptic attack which was caused by watching a cartoon “POKEMON”.When the kids were asked about what had happened they said that unexpectedly, they felt bad, at the moment when the eyes of the Pokémon started to sparkle.And it was difficult to cope with it. The specialist discovered that attack was caused by television.

Television causes humans` aggressiveness
• Do you know that the pupils watches approximately 8000 scenes of murdering and 100 000 of other actions of violence
• Leonardo Iron and Rowell Husman found out that in the biggest number of cases people,who watch the so called “cool” movies or programs, do a very serious crimes.
• Also Chris Boyatz and his colleagues discovered the same results, when a few scenes from Program “Rangers” were shown to the children. After watching this episode the pupils made aggressive actions oftener in 7 times.The boys tried to imitate the ranger`s actions.

In Norway in 1994 at the age of 5 years a girl was hit with a help of stones by her friends.They hit her and left in the snow.It was proved thet the boys imitated the actions from the programme ”Ranger”. The boys said the Rangers were the examples for them how to act.
• To American psychologist Kempbell`s opinion.screen images can stay in the memory for a long time without being controlled. It is possible that in a case of conflict the person can copy the actions he have seen before on the screen.

Our second argument is that Television makes people to waste their time.
