In fact there is a huge gap between two waves of immigration in US, both cultural and economic, but nevertheless there are certain similarities between them. Let’s first consider some distinctive features of two waves of immigration. The first vivid differences lay upon origin of immigrants, namely, the initial immigration was chiefly from Europe, and the immigration of the end of previous century was basically consists of people from Asia and Latin America. Thus as we can see from given figures the proportion of immigrants in period between 1901-1910 was on 92% consist of European immigrants, whether in the decade from 1991 to 2000 we can see that total amount of European immigrants is only 15% and the rate of Latin American immigrants as much as 47% in addition with 31% of Asian immigrants. The next obvious difference is that worker from first wave was less educated than contemporary immigrants. It’s because the trend for education in today’s world, and for the reason that in that time for physical raw power, whether now in America could adjust live only qualified, intelligent and proficient immigrant and those who knows how to make business. Finally about differences, among the reason for the first wave of immigration was not only the desire of people to make better life and make a fortune, but also intention to survive from repression on motherland, and escape from death from hunger in poverty in hard time for a country as well, in contrast with today’s immigrants who come to US mainly for the realization of “American dream” and providing children with good opportunities for education and future life.

As for the similar points of two immigration waves we can separate several of them. One similarity same for all immigrant is their willingness to make sacrifice to adjust living in US and settle down there. We know they work long hours, accept jobs of lower status than the job they had at home and it’s all for providing family with more or less appropriate living conditions. The other similarity lies in the social sphere of the immigrants, namely in available ethnic communities for newcomers. Its place for them to do communication and make contacts with compatriot came from one country, place to find employment or start a business that serves the ethnic community. Moreover all immigrants regardless of time they come to US feel uncomfortable in the first time they move to new country and they need time to get used to new place. However they children came in small age or born in US with time make consider themselves as truly Americans, and only partly as member of ethnical group.
