The Power Engineering Department of the Belarusian National Technical University is one of the oldest and largest faculties of the University. It was founded at the same time with the birth of the University in 1920. It is located at the building № 2. It comprises many specialities and specializations connected with production, transmission and distribution of heat and electrical energy, automation of electrical and power engineering processes, economy and production management, etc.

The energy branch is basic for the national economy and it has outstripping growth rate. That is why the faculty specialities always excite interest of young people. Graduates of the faculty among which are many famous people of the Republic of Belarus and abroad are in grand demand.

There are eight chairs of the faculty where power engineers are trained in the following specialities:

- Economy and Production Management

- Power Stations

- Power Systems and Grids

- Power Supply

- Thermal Power Stations

- Steam Power Plants of Nuclear Power Stations

- Automation and Management of Power Engineering Processes

- Industrial Thermal Power Engineering

Two departments are of general profile. The faculty unites three scientific research and innovative laboratories, the centre of automatic control systems in power energy and industry, and also a computer centre with the highly-qualified staff of professors and lecturers.

The faculty laboratories are provided with modern educational equipment, computers and instruments. The faculty keeps tight scientific and business connections with enterprises and universities of the Republic of Belarus and all over the world.

During the history of the Faculty such deans as A.I. Rutski, V.M. Eliin, Y.A. Malevitch, A.M. Babuk, S.A. Pavlovitch, V.M. Prima, A.D. Kachan, A.V. Kochetkov, A.A. Mazurenko, M.I. Streliuk have made the considerable contribution to the development of the faculty. Since 1987 up to date the head of the faculty is S.M. Siliuk.

The faculty staff consists of 130 highly skilled professors. There are 18 Doctors of Science and 76 Candidates of Science among them. Today the Faculty has more than 3,500 students including 1,550 full-time students and about 1,830 part-time students.
