English is the major international language for communication in such fields as science, technology and business. English is one of the official languages of political organizations, especially such famous organizations as NATO, the United Nations and so on. It is the language of computer software, literature, education, and modern music.

Now we can say that Russia is integrating into the world community, so the task of learning foreign languages seems to be necessary. A lot of foreigners come to visit Russia and it is interesting to communicate with them. You may learn a lot of new and interesting things about their life and culture. Learning different languages is not an easy process because it takes a lot of time. In our country English is very popular. It is learnt at schools, colleges, institutes and universities. Here are some interesting facts about English: Modern English has the largest vocabulary in the world - more than 600,000 words of which 60,000 word are in common use.

About 450-500 words are added to the English vocabulary every year. The most frequently used words in written English are: the, of, and, to, a, in, that, is, I, it, for and as.

The most frequently used word in conversation is I.

The letter which is used more than others is " e ". The words which begin with the letter " s " are the most common in use.
