Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to take part in the VII International exhibition of graphics and fashion illustration "Birth of Costume". In 2015 the theme of the exhibition is "The style of the big city". The creative source of exhibiting works could be drawn from any urban landscape, including architecture, advertising, lighting design, rhythm of road junctions - in short, everything that makes up the appearance of the modern metropolis.

The exhibiting works can be done in any representational forms: decorative painting, different kinds of sketches, samples of fashion illustration and advertising graphics, as well as small sculptures, dolls, decorative panels. The format of the exhibition does not limit artists in the choice of artistic and expressive graphic techniques or objects of depiction.

The exhibition project "Birth of Costume" is organised by Southern Federal University with the active support of the Southern Regional Division of the Academy of Fine Arts and the regional offices of the creative unions: the Union of Designers of Russia, the Union of Artists of Russia, the Union of Architects of Russia. Its participants are representatives of higher and secondary educational institutions, who take professional training in the field of the fashion industry; as well as young artists and illustrators from 17 cities in seven countries - Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, China, New Zealand, Australia, Italy.

The aims of the exhibition:

• To develop creative connection between students & tutors of various international schools of fashion design
• To create an event where knowledge & experiences in the area of costume graphics can be exchanged & shared by the members of educational institutions
• To compile a collection of works that could be used in the educational process as an examples of professional artistic works in the areas of Costume/Fashion design & Creative product development
• To visually present the diversity of artistic styles, medias & techniques of depicting costume and to discover the current trends in the contemporary fashion illustration

Works of participants will be exhibited in the prestigious exhibition hall of the city and will be widely covered by the media. As part of the exhibition round tables, workshops, meetings with leading artists will be organised.

Exhibitors will be chosen by Exhibition Committee of the project on the basis of the submitted photographs. Works can be submitted in person or via electronic mail. In the latter case it is necessary to send digital versions of works to the Organizing Committee. Digital printing, framing & finishing is the responsibility of project organisers.

Participation in the exhibition is free of charge!

Upon conclusion of the exhibition a digital catalogue will be created which will be a valuable teaching resource for training and educational purposes, and serve advertising purposes for the young artists.

Please email high-resolution photographs of your works to the committee’s email addresses: [e-mail], [e-mail]. If the work is chosen for exhibition the image submitted will be professionally printed & framed for the show. For best results images should be high resolution JPGs (at least 300pdi) & up to A2 (420 x 594mm) in size. Each email should not exceed 4MB. Please, also include artist’s name, title of work, media/materials used, name of the school/faculty or name of curator (for representatives only) & contact email address.

Chosen participants will be notified by email.

This project is not a competition but purely an educational exhibition. All artists & representatives of institutions will receive a diploma of participation, digital catalogue of exhibition, and mass media coverage/publications of the event.

The exhibition will be held in 3 April 2015.
