1. The beginning of British painting school. Foreign artists and their role in its foundation.
– Sir Anthony Van Dyck as a father of the portrait school in Britain.
2. British national school of painting and its main characteristics. Portrait painting as a glory of British art:
– William Hogarth as a founder of British portrait’s school;
– Joshua Reynolds: his output into the development of British portrait’s school;
– Thomas Lawrence: a portraitist of nobility;
– George Romney: a popular sought-after portraitist.
3. Difficulties in developing of landscape painting in Great Britain. Landscaping as the second glory of British art:
– Thomas Gainsborough as a founder of British landscape’s school;
– Joseph Mallord William Turner: British landscapist, anticipated Impressionism and abstract art.
4. The development of contemporary British painting.
