London has a large number of museums and galleries. It’s the centre for the world’s art trade with many galleries houses. London has over 300 museums. I would like to tell you about some of them.

London has a large number of museums and galleries. It’s the centre for the world’s art trade with many galleries houses. London has over 300 museums. I would like to tell you about some of them.

 

1) The first one is British Museum. It is an incomparably rich treasure chest. The British Museum consists o the national museum of archaeology and ethnography and the national library, the richest of its kind in the world. It was founded in 1753 by an act of (the) Parlament. Its nucleus was founded the priceless collection of manuscripts of Sir Robert Cotton and Sir Hans Sloane who left his varied collections to the nation upon his death in 1753.

 

2) The Natural History Museum is divided into 5 departments covering botanic, entomology, mineralogy, paleontology and zoology. The museum’s collections were built up round the specimens collected by Sir Hans Sloane. The continued exhibition of the collections in theBritish Museum meant that a separate Natural History Museum was required. It was opened in 1881.

 

3) The National Gallery in Trafalgar square contains one of the finest permanent collections of major European paintings, compressing more than 2000 pictures dating from the late 13th to the early 20th century. The Gallery was founded in 1824.

 

4) The Museum of London is the largest and most comprehensive city museum in the world. It’s dedicated to the story of London and its people. There you can see a Roman bikini, an old Selfridges’s lift, an 18th century debtor’s prison, as well as royal treasures.

 

5) Cartoon museum. In this museum you can find an exhaustive collection of all types of cartoons including rare examples of cartoon art. It’s an ideal place to entertain kids of all ages as well as a serious collection for animation enthusiasts. There are over 900 pieces on exhibit participate. The Cartoon Museum also offers adult lectures and exclusive courses in the field of cartoons and then use and place in society.

 

6) Pollock’s Toy Museum is an English toy theatre. It was most popular in the 1800s and consists of paper or wooden theatres allowing children to stage their own productions at home, usually with cut-out sheets of figures for the scenery props and various characters in the play. London visitors can also view the large collections of toys around the world.

 

7) Twickenham Stadium Tours / Museums of Rugby. This London Rugby stadium first opened in 1996 and takes visitors through the history of the sport from its origins to the present day. With the large collection of Rugby the museum gives a unique insight into this magnificent sport.

 

8) The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum was opened in 2006 by the Duke of Kent. The state of the art tennis Museum in London has since received thousands of visitors from all over the world. You can also view the Whiter of Wimbledon exhibition and see the collection of tennis dresses through the ages from the 1880s right up to the present day.
