Dr. Andrew Prince Programme Manager for International Diploma in Business INTO University of Exeter

Andrew Prince was born in 1956 and was educated at Newton Abbot Grammar School. At the age of 19 he joined the Royal Navy and trained as an Observer in the Fleet Air Arm. He served for 25 years in a wide variety of appointments including Executive Officer (second-in-command) of the frigate HMS CHATHAM and Commanding Officer of 814 Naval Air Squadron. This included active service during the First Gulf War and in support of NATO operations in the former Yugoslavia. During his service he completed his first degree in History and English with the Open University.

On leaving the Royal Navy in 2000 Andrew took a Master’s Degree in Naval History at the University of Exeter. He then taught Navigation at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth from 2003-2009, during which time he obtained his teaching qualification (PGCE). He also began his studies towards his Doctorate in Education (EdD)with the University of the West of England (Bristol) whilst at the College.

In 2009 Andrew joined INTO University of Exeter as a part-time lecturer in Business Management. In 2012 he was awarded his Doctorate and took up his present job as Programme Manager for the International Diploma (Business).

Andrew is an Ashburton Town Councillor and former mayor of Ashburton: he is chairman of the Finance Committee and deputy chairman of the Planning Committee. He has also been a director of a not-for-profit woodland management company and CEO of the company and currently sits on the board of the Bank Youth Project – a charity established to support disadvantaged young people in Ashburton. He is married to Sarah, a therapeutic counsellor, and they have two daughters: Eleanor (26) is a civil servant with the Ministry of Defence and also an officer in the Royal Navy Reserve; Imogen (24) is a freelance production assistant in film and TV. In his spare time he enjoys sailing, flying light aircraft, playing golf and reading.
