ACTS 2:1-11: AND when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2- And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3- And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4- And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (We will notice as follows that God used this method to get the truth to every nation, kindred, tongue and people in their own language. N.B.)

5- And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6- Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

7- And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilжns?

8- And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

9- Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judжa, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

10- Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

11- Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. (approx. 16 languages)

(This is not an unknown language, although it is an unknown language, for example: If you speak today in Greek it would be unknown to someone who does not understand Greek. We will notice that when we study into the Bible, the word unknown tongues is always written in italics because it is a supplied word). Please notice: These were all earthly languages

ISAIAH 7:10-12: Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,

11- Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.

12- But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.

(To ask a sign would be to tempt the LORD. This he said he would not ask)

Let us see if tongues are a sign that we have the Holy Spirit:

MATTHEW 12:38-40: Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

39- But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall nosign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

40- For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the Whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Verse 40 will be the only sign that God will give them) We will notice later that Satan will give them a sign.

1 CORINTHIANS 1:22-24: For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

23- But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

24- But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

2 THESSALONIANS 2:9: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

1 CORINTHIANS 12:28-31: And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. (We notice that God says first apostles, and the last thing mentioned is tongues. We will notice that Satan takes the last thing mentioned (tongues) and by this deceives many).

29- Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

30- Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

31- But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I you a more excellent way.

Surely we would want the more excellent way, let us see:

1 CORINTHIANS 14: 1,5: FOLLOW after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

5- I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

1 CORINTHIANS 14:22: Wherefore tonguesare fora sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

JEREMIAH 6:19: Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it. (We notice that when God says Hear, O earth: he is speaking to the people.)

REVELATION 13:13: And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, (What would happen if Satan with the false tongues imitates the day of Pentecost, and fire comes down upon the people. If they are now deceived by the false tongues (not earthly languages), would they not at that time think it to be the latter rain? They profess to be waiting for the latter rain.)

Remembering the day of Pentecost:

ACTS 2:3: And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

Let us go back to just after the flood:

GENESIS 11:1-9: AND the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2- And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3- And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

4- And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5- And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

6- And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7- Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

8- So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

9- Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

(We notice here that they could not understand one another’s language. The tower which they built, is the tower of Babel, and this is where their languages were confounded.)

Let us see what happens when the Spirit of God comes upon somebody:

NUMBERS 11:25: And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and did not cease.

1 SAMUEL 10:10: And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him,and he prophesied among them.

1 SAMUEL 19:23: And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

1 SAMUEL 19:20,21: And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

21- And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.

JOEL 2:28,29: And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29- And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

ACTS 2:17,18: And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18- And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

(According to the above study is it any wonder that God calls his people out of Babylon?) Please note the following verses:

REVELATION 18:1,2, 4: AND after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

2- And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird. (Friends, we can’t miss it, is fallen, is fallen. When something falls, it falls down and not up.) Therefore the following verse:

4- And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. (Babylon = Confusion, for example: Babbel on

Friends, let us come out of Babbel on. Let us covet the more excellent way, let us covet prophesy.

(In the confusion of the false tongues, when they pray with you they tell you to speak in your heavenly language, and if you do this they say you blow all the fuses in hell, because Satan does not understand the language, this is a lie, the Bible says that Satan is the father of all lies, it is not a heavenly language, it is an earthly language as we have seen from the above study, and do you think after six thousand years Satan does not understand the earthly languages?)

Remember:

ROMANS 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
