Labour to enter into rest

LABOUR TO ENTER INTO REST

EXODUS 16:4,5: Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

(We will notice in the above verse that the LORD was going to prove (or test) them to see if they were going to keep his law or no (or not)).

Verse 5: And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.

(We notice in verse 5 that God gives them twice as much on the sixth day. As we study further we will see the reason.)

Verse 13-16,19,20: And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.

14- And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.

15- And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is man-na: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.

16- This is the thing, which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.

19- And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.

20- Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.

(We notice in verse 20 that they were disobedient and listened not to Moses.)

Verse 22,23: And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

23- And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, Tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

(We notice in verses 22,23 that God gave them twice as much on the sixth day, and we also notice that they were to prepare the food on the sixth day, and that which remained was to be kept for the seventh day).

Verse 24: And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.

(We notice the five days when they kept food over it got worms in it and stank (because they listened not to Moses). But we will notice in the above verse that when they kept it over on the sixth day it never stank, neither was there any worm therein. Here was another miracle.)

Verse 25-27: And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to the day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.

26- Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

27- And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.

(please notice in verse 27 that some were disobedient to God and went out on the seventh day and found none.)

Verse 28: And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

(Please notice that God used the seventh day sabbath as a test to see whether they would keep his commandments or not. (see verse 27).

Verse 29: See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

Verse 35: And the children of Israel did eat man-na forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat man-na, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

(Please notice God gave then man-na five days in a week, = 5 miracles, for forty years, but on the sixth day He gave them twice as much = 2 miracles = food for seven days a week. If they kept it over during the 5 days, it stank and got worms = 1 miracle. But when they kept it over on the sixth day, it never stank or got worms = 1 miracle.

From the above we will notice that there were approximately 9 miracles per week.

Therefore: There are 52 weeks in a year X 9 miracles per week = 468 miracles in a year. And as you will notice above in verse 35 God fed them man-na for forty years: 40 years X 468 miracles per year = 18,720 miracles in 40 years.

HEBREWS 4:1-11:

Dear friend, please notice that the seventh day sabbath again in the New Testament is the same test for us to show our loyalty to God.

Verse 1: LET us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

(When one sees the true seventh day sabbath from the Word of God, and have been involved with Sunday, we should certainly seem to have come short of entering into his rest.)

2- For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

(As you have noticed the gospel preached to them, never profited them. They went out on the seventh day sabbath (because of lack of faith).

3- For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wroth, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

4- For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

5- And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

6- Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

(Remember they went out on the seventh day to find food, they entered not into his rest).

7- Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

(You will see To day is the same test after so long a time.)

8- For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

(Some say Jesus gave them Sunday. If it were so then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.)

9- There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

(Notice, to the people of God, not to the world.)

10- For he that is entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

11- Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

(Notice, there is a labour involved to enter into that rest):

EXODUS 20:9: Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

(Here is the labour involved. The reason is):

verse 10: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

11- For in six days the LORD made (laboured) heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day:

wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

HEBREWS 4:12: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

(As we have gone through the study so far, God knows our thoughts and intentions).

PSALM 95:6-9: O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.

7- For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,

8- Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

9- When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. (miracles)

10- Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways:

(Let us not err in our heart (mind) after the same manner of unbelief, and that we will not make up to day part of those who do err in their heart (mind) and know not God’s ways).

11- Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

ROMANS 3:31: Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

(Let us not make void God’s law, come let us rather establish it).

PSALM 119:126: It is time for thee, LORD to work: for they have made void thy law.

ECCLESIASTES 12:12,13,14: And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making of many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness to the flesh.

13- Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14- For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

(Remember the work that God advised in Heb. 4:11. Is this not a good work to labour (work) to enter into his rest without unbelief?)

JAMES 4:17: Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
