Ways of expressing hunger:

I feel hungry.

I’m starving.

I’m famished.

I’m ravenous.

I’ve got to eat soon, or I will faint.

My stomach is telling me to eat.

Wow, I really have to eat something.

I’m so hungry! I could eat a horse!

Ways to describe the action of eating:

I’m eating my food.

I’m taking a meal.

I’m having something to eat.

I’m consuming my meal.

I’m having a bite to eat.

I’m scoffing my meal (=eating fast).

I’m wolfing my meal down (=eating fast).

I’m picking at my food (=eating slowly).

Slang words for food:

Chow

Eats

Grub

Nosh

Nosebag

Nibbles

Tucker

Greens (=vegetables)

Proverbs:

I’ll eat him/her for breakfast. = I will easily win or beat someone in a contest.

It’s a piece of cake. = It’s easy to do.

The apple of your eye. = Someone you love and care for deeply.

Bring home the bacon. = Earn money to support a family.

Have your cake and eat it. = Enjoy both sides of a situation or to want more than you should have.

Food for thought. = An idea or comment that makes you think about something deeply.

Sour grapes. = The feeling of bitterness towards someone.

Salad days. = Your younger days, earlier in life, when things seemed much simpler.
