The project will be organized near of the famous place in Russia - Lake Baikal. Lake Baikal is situated in south-east Siberia, it is the deepest lake in the world (1,637 m), contains 20% of all fresh running water on the planet, making it the single largest reservoir. The lake contains an outstanding variety of endemic flora and fauna, of exceptional value to evolutionary science. Lake Baikal is included in the World Heritage list of UNESCO.
We are very proud that already 3 years we have support from Coordinating committee for international voluntary service (CCIVS) and this camp is included in the list of World Heritage camps. It`s very popular tourist area where now big problem with garbage exists.
The project is organized by Baikal State Nature Biosphere Reserve. The mission of the Reserve is preservation of natural systems of southern part of Lake Baikal. The main task isto promote ideas of peace and respect for nature among young people all over the world through international volunteer activity. This camp will help to promote and develop these ideas and support environmental activities of Reserve. Besides one of the important tasks of Natural Reserve is to create sustainable educational tourism and touristic infrastructure to prevent problem with garbage which exists there.
Work: The main tasks of volunteers are:
- help with construction of the special parking area for tourists and visitors and area for technology services,
- help with building of camping area and making paths from Lake to the camping,
- collecting, sorting (plastic, glass, paper, aluminum) and preparation garbage for transportation from the territory of the Lake Baikal coast,
- organizing of various forms of environmental education of local people to inform local people and tourists about importance, unique and ecological problems of Lake Baikal and nearest territories like PR-campaigns and exhibition “Second life of garbage”,
Leisure time: swimming, hiking to the wild taiga forest, sport games.
Accommodation and food: Be ready for very simple and very natural conditions.Volunteers will leave in tents for 3-6 persons not far from the working place. Toilets will be provided in special place. No showers, but clean water in the Lake is available. Also volunteers will have the opportunity to try Russian banya (1 time per week is for free). Volunteers will buy all products in the shops and deliver it into the camp by themselves. Volunteers will cook meal by themselves in special organized canteen.
Clean water for drinking will be delivered by car 2 times per week.

Extra: Motivation letter, medical insurance, sleeping bags are necessary. Volunteers should take warm clothes and waterproof shoes.
