The history of Almetyevsk State Oil Institute (ASOI) comes back to the Educational Consultation Office which was opened on the base of the Moscow Oil Institute named after I.M.Gubkin in 1956.

In 1958 ECO acquired the status of the Extra - mural (corresponding) Department of the Moscow Institute of oil and gas a year later it became the Tatar Evening Department of the Moscow Institute of Petrochemical and Gas Industry named after I.M.Gubkin.

The list of the graduators from the Institute includes the veterans of the oil industry of Tatarstan: Rodkin A., Mazurok F., Nurgaleyev M., Sergeyev V., Gyozd S., who drilled the first production wells of the Romashkino oil-field; Amirkhanov R., Ilyin A., Yildanov Kh., who produced the first barrels of oil. The graduaters from our Institute Mukhametzuanov A., Tumoshuk A., Zubkov V., Rassokhin A., took an active part in the development of the first oil - fields of our region.

The General director of the «Tatneft» Stock Company Takhautdinov Sh., the Deputy Directors Mukhamadeyev R., Gorodny V., Lavushchenko V., Maganov N., the Chief of the «Almetyevneft» Administration Zalyatov M., the Chief of the «Jalilneft» Administration Taziyev M., and many others have been successfully working in oil industry.

In 1992 in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic on the base of the Tatar Evening Department there was founded Almetyevsk State Oil Institute. The founder of the Institute is the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan.

More than 4500 students are trained at Almetyevsk State Oil Institute today, 600 teachers and employees work there. The Institute occupies 3 buildings, has a number of facilities including the press of its own.

AOSI trains specialists for oil and gas industry in 6 faculties on 10 specialties:

- oil and gas well - drilling;

- exploitation of oil and gas deposits;

- designing, construction and exploitation of oil and gas pipelines and oil and gas holders;

- technology of mechanical engineering;

- machinery of oil and gas deposits;

- electric drive and automation of industrial installations and technological complexes;

- automation of technological processes and productions;

- industrial heat and power engineering;

- economics and management of enterprises (in oil and gas industry)

- economics of labor.

The contingent of the students is increasing constantly; the full - time post - graduate course has been opened. The high quality of the training of the specialists is provided by the professorial staff of the Institute. Fundamental and applied investigations are being carried out at the Institute the results of which are successfully being introduced into the industry.

Almetyevsk State Oil Institute takes the leading place for the volume of financing the scientific investigations among the Institutes of the same profile. There is the Students' Scientific Society in the ASOI on the basis of which there have been created the scientific sections on geology, history, sociology and foreign languages. The students take an active part in scientific practical conferences which are regularly conducted by the Chairs of geology, economics of an enterprise and humanitarian education. The authors of the best works take part in the International and All - Russia conferences of young scientists and students.

The system of the education and sports work management has been created at the Institute.

The sport complex of ASOI includes 2 gymnasiums, the open stadium, the diagnostic centre. Besides, the Institute rents the swimming pool and a few gymnasiums of the Sports Complex of the «Tatneft» Stock Company. The Institute carries out the annual students' championship which is called Spartakiada. Our teams take an active part in the annual town games between the higher and the special technical education Institutions of Almetyevsk.

The first creative grope of the students of ASOI is the team 10 Little Negroes –the club of the Merry and Quick – minded students which took the first place in the competition between the teams of the South – East of Tatarstan. There is a dancing group, a radio studio, various clubs in the Institute.

The graduators from Almetyevsk State Oil Institute are of great respect and authority not only in the Republic of Tatarstan, but in the other regions of Russia.
