National Stereotypes

I. Paraphrase the underlined fragments using synonyms or synonymous expression.

1. Whenever we have a fragmental picture of the outside world, national stereotypes allow us to find missing parts of information to make a complete picture of other nations.

2. A high sense of dignity and superiority differentiates the Americans from other nations in the whole world.

3. Travel enriches our outlook and erases limits on our accurate understanding of other people.

4. The Americans are known for looking on the bright side of things whatever life problems they have to face.

5. The tradition of keeping calm and hiding your feelings when you are in pain or in a difficult situation was very strong in the Britain of the 19th century, however in modern times the British no longer behave in such a way.

II. Give the opposite of the following

  1. accurate (3)

  4. similar

III. Supply the missing preposition.

  1. A sense … dignity is not typical … the Belarusians.

V. Translate the following text into English.
