Canada is-washed by three oceans: the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Arctic. The population of Canadaas about 26 million people,,' The coun­try occupies the territory of 9976 thousand square kilometres. The capital of Canada is Ottawa/with a population of more than 300 thousand^people.

3 Canadians are a nation composed of two linguistic and cul­tural groups: French and English. That's why the two official : languages of Canada are English and French^The majority of French Canadians live in Quebec. They are keen^oh'preserving their national culture. There is a party in Quebec that insists on separating from Canada and forming an independent state.

There is also a small native population of Indians and Es­kimos, who were the first inhabitants of the American conti­nent.

The interior of the country is a plain. The plain extends from the Rocky Mountains to the Appalachian Mountains'. In the North the plain ends in the islands of the Arctic Ocean, and in the South it continues into the USA and carries on beyond the Missouri River and the Great Lnlces to the Gulf of Mexico.

/ U Canada shares with the USA four of the five Great Lakes — Superior, Huron, Erie and Ontario, and the fifth lake — Michigan — is entirely on US territory. ^Besides the Great Lakes there are also Great Bear Lake, Great Slave Lake, Lake Winnipeg and many small ones -?The most outstanding sight which attracts tourists from all over the world is the Niagara Falls.

^Canada consists of ten provinces: Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia,- and also the North-West territories and Yukon territory.
