16)India – Culture (Capital, Ganges, Taj Majal, castes, clothes, Film Industry, main cities)

India is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma and Bangladesh. Capital - New Delhi, the largest city - Mumbai. Official languages - Hindi, English. President - Pratibna Patil.

Taj Mahal
White marble mausoleum located in Agra, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage." It's style that combines elements from Persian, Turkish and Indian architectural styles. There are 2 graves in it (Emperor and his wife). Building: 1630 - 1652. The height is 74 meters.

Ganges
Great river of the plains of northern India. Although officially as well as popularly called the Ganga in Hindi and in other Indian languages. From time immemorial it has been the holy river of Hinduism. For most of its course it is a wide and sluggish stream, flowing through one of the most fertile and densely populated regions in the world. Despite its importance, its length of 1,560 miles (2,510 km) is relatively short compared with the other great rivers of Asia or of the world. This river is also known to be the dirtiest river in the world.

 

Caste
A system of social stratification, social restriction.

Untouchables are not allowed to take water from the wells of other castes and to visit their houses. They can't even step the shadows of people of other castes.

Sudras eat meat, they are farmer workers and they play big role in policy. Indians believe in reincarnation and thing that affording to all rules will help you to get better position in next life.

Clothes
Saris made out of silk are considered the most elegant. In some rural parts of India, traditional clothing is worn. Women wear a sari, a long sheet of colorful cloth with patterns. This is draped over a simple or fancy blouse. This is worn by young ladies and women. Little girls wear a pavada.
Bindi - Traditionally it is a dot of red color applied in the center of the forehead close to the eyebrows, but it can also consist of a sign or piece of jewelry worn at this location
Lehenga choli - A lehenga is a form of long skirt which is pleated. It is usually embroidered or has a thick border at the bottom. A choli is a blouse shell garment, which is cut to fit to the body and has short sleeves and a low neck.
Men:
A dhoti is from four to six feet long white or colour strip of cotton. This traditional attire is mainly worn by men in villages. It is held in place with the help of a belt, ornamental and embroidered or a flat and simple one, around the waist.
A Sherwani
is a long coat / jacket that usually sports exposed buttons through the length of the placket. The length is usually just below the knees and the jacket ends around high on the calf.

, formerly known as Bombay, is one of India's fashion capitals.

Film Industry
Bollywood is the informal term popularly used for the Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay). Masala - is the genre of Indian Film Industry that includes in it action, detective and love story and comedy. Music is also very important for them.
Films: Aladin, Gandhi, Black (popular all over the world). In Russia - Zita and Gita
