Committee on Human Rights and Civil Liberties

Description: Every human being is entitled to natural rights for the pursuit of happiness. Human rights are highly cherished and promoted in European Union. Civil liberties as a part of human rights are valuable asset for Europeans. Such a position needs to be preserved and promoted.

Human rights and civil liberties are the subject to abuse in different areas: interpersonal communication, jobs, voting procedures, etc. European Union is striving to protect these rights from abuse and promote the increased awareness of citizens about inequality in opportunities, protection of personal values and importance of developing high moral standards among individuals.

Committee Goal: The Committee on Human Rights and Civil Liberties is designed to discuss the issues of rights that every person is entitled in the world and specifically in European Union. The questions of individual’s rights and freedoms are discussed from the standpoint of European values. Existing and potential problems within the specified topic will be identified and solutions will be proposed and supported with arguments by the committee.

Requirements: The members of the committee should have basic knowledge of human rights and related issues; be informed about the worldwide conflicts associated with the human rights; have awareness of political and social issues in European Union; operate basic knowledge in Economics, Politics, and Social Affairs.

Committee on Social Affairs

Description: Social welfare system is one of the major areas that European Union invests in. Basic social protections such as pension funds, health care and equal education rights should be granted to all citizens of each and every country in European Union. Additionally, social equality in opportunities is promoted, so there is no differentiation between genders, races, ages, religions, social statuses and other clusters of the society. European Union has achieved the higher mobility of citizens, thus creating additional social issues, such as the ability to earn social benefits (healthcare, pension protection, individual rights). Mobility leads to diversity and issues connected to intolerance, discrimination and xenophobia. The EU is struggling to decrease the tensions and promote social equality in both legal and interpersonal ways.

Committee Goal: The Committee on Social Affairs is designed to acknowledge and discuss the social problems of European Union and related legal and economic issues. The members will be proposing the solutions to the ongoing problems of inequality and intolerance in Europe, and suggesting possible policy improvements. Additionally, the committee will propose the potential ways to decrease the interpersonal intolerance and discrimination in EU, Lithuania specifically.

Requirements: The members should have basic knowledge in sociology (particularly diversity and equality issues); have basic understanding of politics and legal regulations connected to social welfare in European Union; understand the nature of European Union diversity and problems associated with it.

Committee on Culture and Heritage

Description: Despite the fact that European Union is multination and every nation is exposed to the influence of other cultures and traditions due to open borders, the protection of every culture is promoted in order to save the cultural heritage and history. However, cultural exchange is valued because of the ability of European citizens to learn from each other and providing a chance to embrace the true multiculturalism of Europe.

European Union promotes cultural cooperation not only within but also outside its borders with the countries of non-EU region. Exposure to new cultures and adaptation in different cultural environments ensures higher quality citizenship and increases tolerance and respect for other countries and their heritage.

Committee Goal: The Committee on Culture and Heritage is designed to assess the potential of cross-cultural cooperation and the value of one’s own and other’s heritage. The committee addresses the importance of cultural understanding for better European citizenship. It also acknowledges the problems related to multiculturalism and proposes the ways to decrease them.



Requirements: the members of the committee should have basic knowledge about multiculturalism and tolerance; understand the values of European Union related to cultural exchange and international cooperation in terms of culture; have basic education in diversity studies and cultural exchange programs.

Committee on Employment and Worker’s Rights

Description: Every person is entitled to the right to work and get paid according to his/her input. Keynes said that unemployment is barbaric, and individuals deteriorate personally and professionally in case of long-term unemployment. European Union is striving to provide full employment and promote higher productivity of every worker. The protection of worker’s rights on the job and in labor unions in crucial for effective government and civil involvement.

Knowledge-based economy is one of the drivers of European success. In contemporary world in order to be competitive, the companies, as well as whole economies, should invest more time, effort and money into education, science and life-long learning. Individuals in the workforce should be able to meet the global economy requirements and challenges, including flexibility, adaptability and mobility.

Committee Goal: Committee on Employment and Worker’s Rights is created for addressing the issues of employment and enforcement of worker’s rights. The committee will primarily discuss the importance of good governance and legislative procedures for protecting workers and their well-being. The committee will identify and address the major issues related to European employment, connected to migration, training and enforcement of the law.

Requirements: the members of the committee should have basic knowledge in the area of European law on employment and worker’s right protection; understand the economic principles of employment and labor unions; understand the legislation on workers’ rights; have the understanding of job opportunities in Europe and abroad.

Committee on Constitutional Affairs

Description: European Union consists of different countries, which have different governance. Mutual agreement on policies and rules is essential for successful fulfillment of European citizenship. Interpretation and understanding of the rules and procedures is crucial for the support and promotion of European values.

Institutional relations and consequences are the ones that affect the whole body of European Union and every citizen personally. Strong institutions and efficient governance are cornerstones of contemporary economics and politics, as well as social welfare. European Union is striving to achieve quality of institutions within itself.

Committee Goal: the members of the committee would analyze current institutional position of the European Union, determine major problems in areas and develop the solution framework for improving the institutional quality.

Requirements: knowledge and understanding of politics and economics, understanding of the new institutional economics, ability to critically think in different areas of interest, basic knowledge of social welfare and European politics, basic understanding of European values and democracy.

Committee on Education and Training

Description: life-long learning is the way to be competitive in contemporary market place. Education and practical knowledge are valuable to enter the workforce, but the process of acquiring knowledge does not stop once you graduate, it’s a life-long process. European Union appreciates the quality of education and is developing the effective life-long learning institutions, like museums and libraries. The resources for education and learning are available and are planned to be more available in Europe. Additionally, European education allows for increased opportunities in degree pursuit and on-job training in the global companies. The educational mobility is promoted for increased knowledge base and training experience.

Committee Goal: the committee on Education and Training is designed to discuss and address major problems associated with education and life-long learning, as well as determining current and potential problems with institutional support of education and the adaptability of studying. The committee is expected to address these issues and propose the solutions as current decision and suggestion for the future policy implications.

Requirements: knowledge in educational system and policies in European Union; have basic understanding of the ERASMUS program and training programs for young professionals in European Union; have knowledge in policies related to education and professional training; understand the values of education and life-long learning.

Committee on Religion and Faith

Description: Religion is an important part of European culture and its people. For centuries faith and religion have been shaping Europe. Even though officially European Union is secular, it highly respect freedom of religion and promote tolerance and understanding between different religions and cultures.

Nowadays in EU states there are people who represent many different religions such as: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. Big variety of religions and denominations creates some tension in certain EU states; as a result, European Commission now regularly meets with different religious leaders.

Committee Goal: members of the Committee on Religion and Faith will analyze current situation in EU religions, determine major problems and conflict areas, create solution framework. Also, committee members will discuss influence of religion on people and government of European Union.

Requirements: knowledge and understanding of different religions, basic knowledge in church history and position in EU states, ability to critically think in different areas of interest, basic knowledge of European politics, basic understanding of European values and democracy.
