So... So one must be intelligent. Then he can become free from this knot, hard knot of material life, by cutting it with the weapon, yad anudhyāsinā.
And what is that?
Chindanti ko... Chindanti: cuts; kovidāḥ, intelligent. Tasya ko na kuryāt kathā-ratim. Kathā-ratim.
One should be intelligent enough to understand or to hear kathā of Kṛṣṇa. Simply you have to do this. Just like you are all sitting here. It doesn't require that you have to pass M.A. examination, Ph.D. examination.
God has given you the ear. Simply you sit down and hear from a realized person. The words are there, the message are there. Just like Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Bhagavad-gītā, especially. Everything is there to understand about God. Simply you have to increase your attachment for hearing. That is, that qualification required.
Not that first of all you pass M.A. examination, then you come here and you can understand. No. Simply by hearing, hearing, hearing, you will become expert. Kovida. Simply. That... This process has been approved by Caitanya Mahāprabhu.
Sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhiḥ. You can remain in your position, but try to hear the transcendental message from realized soul. Then gradually you will be enlightened and you will be free from this knot, this material bondage.

I've received sad news from St. Petersburg that one of my older students, Lila Kirtan Prabhu, has passed away.
I knew him from my first visits to Russia in 1992.
He was always an energetic, emotionally loving type person;
one of those kind, hearty persons from the days of Sovietsky Soyuz.
Everyone please offer a prayer to merciful Lord Caitanya to quickly take our Lila Kirtan to the service of Radhe Shyam.

A Visit To Kykkos Monastery 114 фотографий
Yesterday I visited this ancient monastery. Unfortunately photography was not allowed in the main cathedral which was extraordinarily beautiful. The icon there is said to have been made by St. Luke when he had a vision of the Madonna. The entire area of the monastery was extraordinarily clean and sattvic. There was a beautiful museum and and area of the temple where they had "relics"... sometime, body parts, of the saints of yore, and they had a piece of bone from the body of John the Baptist. In all it was a very long day but the monastery and spiritual mood made the journey worthwhile.

Dear Friends.. Hare Krishna!!
This morning I spoke to HH Indradyumna Swami and he requested me to put a message up on his behalf.
He is in Warsaw and has been afflicted with cough and fever for around a week.
Today he went to the hospital and was diagnosed as having pneumonia. The doctors have put him on an anti-biotic regime and advised that he have full bed rest. Consequently he will not be travelling to South Africa for the Rathayatra.
So that he can rest he has asked that the devotees not to begin making calls to him.. but has requested your prayers for his quick recovery.

Durban has been brilliantly clear and blazing hot this year during Rathyatra.
I don't know if the Pistorious trial is on TV and everyone is home glued to that, or, if it was the Super Rugby match between the Sharks and the Cheetahs, but it seemed that less people were at the site.
BTW... the final score was Sharks 19-8 Cheetahs
Had a chance to be in the Kirtanuity tent at 5 PM.
After some major cajoling I got people to enter the tent and to chant.
Before heading to the main stage I met the Premier of Kwa Zulu Natal as he was having prasadam in out Govinda's Restaurant. He is a very gracious man and was thanking ISKCON for working on different initiatives to bring cohesion to the cultures of SA.
Then onto the main stage.
I thanked the devotees for again inviting me to South Africa and then reminded them that this year we were missing two of our Rathayatra founders.. Indradyumna Maharaja and Shyamlal Prabhu.
I explained that Maharaja is not present because he is ill in Poland... but is surely recovering.
And that Shyamlal is not present here because he gave up his body in January and went to join Krishna.
Then I had a chance to remember my wonderful god brother Shyamlal prabhu through the philosophy of Gita, Bhagawat, and mission of Lord Caitanya... to which Shyamlal dedicated his entire life.
After that there was a wonderful dramatic performance by the youth.. under the direction of HH Bhaktimarg Swami.
Then fireworks, and being late.. headed back to the Kirtanuity Tent. There were not many folks participating and we wrapped it up by 11 PM.

Saci Suta and I had breakfast with Purusottam Krishna Prabhu, Swarup Damodar Prabhu, Sukumari Mataji, and Sasi-Mukhi Mataji at the home of Piyambada this morning.
As we staggered out the door Abhishek picked us up in the Singhmobile and we roared off to OR Tambo for our flight.
We were received in "The Mother City" Cape Town by Mukunda Prabhu and we headed straight to Pringle Bay.
Here we have joined my very old friend Rupa Raghunath Prabhu, Shyama Mataji, their daughter Sarada, and Madhava and Radhika.
We'll all have two and a half days of rest and then we'll all be back on the road.
While we are here we will take long japa walks on the beach, maybe go for a horseback ride in the fynbos, and of course, try to find a proper baboon forMalati Manjari.
Sunset at 18:30... the sun is dipping below the mountains on the far side of False Bay... Near cape Point.

Shyam and I completed parikrama in two hours. The walk was invigorating and the names were strong.
Then we had darshan of beautiful Sri Sri Gaura Nitai, Sri Sri Krishna Balaram, and Sri Sri Radha Shyamsundar.
it was the most peaceful uncrowded 09:30 darshan I have had in the past many years.
Now.. bag packing and out the door. Jai Radhe Shyam!!

Dear Friends,
This year the date of Akshaya Tritiya is May 2nd.
That is tomorrow... just a few hours away!!
As per Vedic culture, Akshaya Tritiya is considered the most significant day to perform charity. It falls on the third lunar day of bright half of the Indian month of Vaisakha.
The word "Akshaya" means "never diminishing, infinite, and that which never recedes." On this day, if you begin a special devotional service, or give in charity, the spiritual blessings will always increase and will never end.
I am sharing this information with you because there is something I've been thinking about, a very special devotional project, that means a lot to me and that I will share with you tomorrow.
In the past many great events have taken place on Akshaya Tritiya:
It was the day when Srila Vyasadeva began his dictation of Mahabharat to Lord Ganesh. It is the auspicious and holy birthday of Lord Parasuram.
On this day the Treta Yuga began and our sacred Mother Ganga descended to the earth from the heaven. On this day Sri Annapurna Devi was born.
It was on Akshaya Tritiya that the great demigod Kuvera became the Lord of wealth.
In the Mahabharata it is said that Maharaja Yudhisthira received the Akshaya Patra, which he used to serve food for all the needy in his kingdom.
And on this day Sudama Brahman, the dear childhood friend of Krishna, visited his dear friend.
Being so poor, and having nothing of great value to offer, Sudama took a small bit of very poor puffed rice from his home and offered it to Krishna.
He was received with so much love by his friend, Sri Krishna, that he never discussed his poverty.. though he had intended to do so.
But when Sudama returned to his home he found his very poor dwelling has been transformed into a majestic palace of Vaikuntha.
Also... It is on this day that Dushasana, Duryodhana's brother, unveils Draupadi at famous Mahabharat gambling match … and then Sri Krishna protected Draupadi by becoming her “never ending, never diminishing, infinite saree."
The Vedas say that knowledge gained or charity performed on Akshay Tritiya will forever increase.
So friends... Please keep all of these points in mind. Think about them and their benefits.
I will share with you an idea... a project, that I hope you will all be able to assist.

on janmastami 1996 i was in hungary for the installation of sri sri radha syamasundara.. being a bit of an idiot i didn't realise at the time how truly momentous this occasion was.. how could i? i was the silliest person alive with the greatest jewels at my fingertips.. however.. tho i was (and still am) a fool, i had the mercy of sivarama swami bestowed upon me. i was cooking some offerings in the bakery kitchen when a devotee came rushing in and told me that guru maharaja wanted to see me... i went rushing out of the kitchen and toward the temple where i met guru maharaja on the steps. he said 'i have been looking all over for you, gaurangi! i need you to dress krishna..' i gasped and said 'surely not ME!' and he laughed and said 'of course you!' i still have no idea why.
so i rushed with him to the deity room... and onto the altar.. and there THEY stood... in gamshas looking so beautiful i almost said 'why dress them? they look perfect as they are.' but i didn't of course.. i was then joined by my dear friend Rohini who was to dress radharani.. and guru maharaja left us there alone.
we looked at each other and laughed with joy, and i will admit i shed a happy tear or two. then we tried to dress them.. well, for some reason i could not find a single necklace for syam and then... tragedy struck.. I COULD NOT PUT ON HIS CROWN!!! it was awful.. we had to hurry.. Govinda Swami came onto the altar and said krishna needed a necklace and then tried to help put on the crown.. no luck.. then, suddenly, the altar was crowded with sanyasis, gurus and sri prahlad.. who ALL had to put on krishna's crown. it was sort of like a joke.. how many gurus (and sri prahlad) does it take to put on krishna's crown? well... a few. plus a couple of shy women trying to be invisible.
guru maharaja said to me 'good job' (he literally was being too kind) and i blushed and we went into the templeroom together, rohini and i, holding hands.. and when the curtains opened we all sighed because despite my dreadfully inept dressing.. sri sri radha syamasundara looked magnificent.. everything about them was utter perfection and delight. and the sanyasis smiled.. and my goddsisters and brothers smiled and guru maharaja... well, he had tears in his eyes.. i know this because, after the first glimpse of radhe syam, i looked at him and then could not take my eyes from his shining face... he had been awake for.. i don't know.. weeks? months? YEARS?! who knows.. but he looked fresh like a young boy, filled with joy and the tears on his face.. well, i lost it completely.. and i was given something that i ALWAYS get when i serve radhe syam under his guidance and care, i realised how important this was. all of a sudden. i felt it like a bolt of lightening to my hard heart.
so i ask you to join me in serving radhe syam as i try to serve them under the guidance and care of sivarama swami, who loves them so very much.

I thank you all for showing me such a wonderful time while I was there.
When I flew out I took a flight on United Airlines. As I was amazed as the vast size of the terminal I sent Sivarama Swami as message and told him that I could feel his spirit there, from the days when he was a young devotee distributing Prabhupada's books.
He sent me a reply.. "United Terminal is a Holy Tirtha.. Offer your dandavats

HH Jayadvaita Swami is speaking on this verse:
Lord Brahmā, who is celebrated as ātma-yoni, having been born without a mother, was struck with wonder. Thus he took shelter of the lotus flower, and when he had been purified after undergoing severe austerities for many hundreds of years, he could see that the cause of all causes, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, was spread throughout his own body and senses, just as aroma, although very subtle, is perceived in the earth.
PURPORT
Here the statement of self-realization ahaṁ brahmāsmi, which is interpreted by the Māyāvāda philosophy to mean "I am the Supreme Lord," is explained. The Supreme Lord is the original seed of everything (janmādy asya yataḥ [SB 1.1.1]. ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate [Bg. 10.8]). Thus the Supreme Lord extends everywhere, even throughout our bodies, because our bodies are made of material energy, which is the Lord's separated energy. One should realize that since the Supreme Lord spreads throughout one's body and since the individual soul is a part of the Supreme Lord, everything is Brahman (sarvaṁ khalv idaṁ brahma). This realization was achieved by Lord Brahmā after he was purified, and it is possible for everyone. When one is completely in knowledge of ahaṁ brahmāsmi, he thinks, "I am part of the Supreme Lord, my body is made of His material energy, and therefore I have no separate existence. Yet although the Supreme Lord is spread everywhere, He is different from me." This is the philosophy of acintya-bhedābheda-tattva. An example given in this regard is that of the aroma within the earth. In the earth there are aromas and colors, but one cannot see them. Actually we find that when flowers grow from the earth, they appear with different colors and aromas, which they have certainly gathered from the earth, although in the earth we cannot see them. Similarly, the Supreme Lord, by His different energies, spreads throughout one's body and soul, although we cannot see Him. An intelligent man, however, can see the Supreme Lord existing everywhere. Aṇḍāntara-stha-paramāṇu-cayāntara-stham: [Bs. 5.35] the Lord is within the universe and within the atom by His different energies. This is the real vision of the Supreme Lord for the intelligent man. Brahmā, the first created being, became the most intelligent person by his tapasya, austerity, and thus he came to this realization. We must therefore take all knowledge from Brahmā, who became perfect by his tapasya.

I'm visiting my senior brother Tony Hobgood and his wife Jan at their home Porto Cima, Lake Ozark, Missouri.
Well, I'm 63, so Tony has been my senior brother for the same period, and this is the first time I've ever visited his home.
I think this is a testament to the fact that I'm truly dysfunctional.
Tony has been addicted to golf since he was 12. Now he lives on the third hole of a eighteen hole Jack Nicklaus signature design golf course.
It's a green forest all around, no near neighbours, and a golf course in the back yard.
There's a constant serenade of birds, big red squirrels, night visits of raccoons, hummingbirds zooming by our heads, and the occasional coyote knocking at my door.
Just sitting on the porch chanting Japa, and patiently waiting to see either Krishna, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus...
Or maybe a Tiger sneaking out of the Woods.

My Visit With Tony And Jan 27 фотографий
For the first time in 63 years I stepped into the home of my senior brother Tony Hobgood. He and his wife Jan have been married for 52 years. Thats a great success in this current era. They live at Sunrise Beach, Missouri.. surrounded by forest and a beautiful golf course. I had a very peaceful and relaxed stay.. and was very happy to come closer to my family.

Bimal, Surya, Misha, and I were received at JFK by Satya Britton, Kana Zucker,
and by the best burfi in the entire universe that was eaten by Sri Sri Radha Govinda, and an assortment of twenty four delicious doughnuts from The Donut Plant.
I packed in a very large piece of burfi.
While relishing I realised that one piece of that maha prasadam contained more spiritual piety than I have performed in countless millions of lifetimes... And more calories than I should ingest in an entire week of food consumption.
I mean, when you boil heavy cream, butter, and sugar... things become very deadly serious.
We all managed only 2 doughnuts each... thus I have plenty of prasadam for the staff on Emirates this evening.
I left the USA in September 1972 when I went for the installation of Radha Gopinath in Toronto. I never came back home.
Visiting India for the first time in 1976 I was infected with the deadly Vrindavan Virus, so I moved to Vrindavan and... the rest is now a trail of kirtans and programmes.
The USA on this visit was wonderful. I was with devotees and my family, and each person I met endeared me with their gracious hospitality and care.
To all that I met, I thank you very much.
You loving kindness has become engraved on the slate of my heart
And now they are calling my flight..
O... "Land of the free and the home of the brave"... I bid thee adieu.
I pray I may again return to render some menial service to the mission of my spiritual master.

Heading out for a 6:30... 32 degrees japa walk. I walked outside for about 1/2 hour yesterday afternoon. I was so hot I could have melted.
So I quickly went back inside because cleaning up a melted Me would be a full day job

Passed a wonderful evening with Shyam and Vijaya Radhika in Dubai.
Today was hotter than Hades.. but tonight a pleasant breeze was blowing and it was a blessed relief from the heat... and the air conditioning.
I also heard today that Swarup Damodar and Anuradha's dad passed away.
He was a very nice man whose association was always a pleasure.
May I request all my friends to say a prayer for him and his family.

The bird of my heart does not know what past sinful activities it has committed to cause this inability to chant Hare Krishna properly.

I've arrived at Chandramukhi Mataji's flat in Bishkek.
Different from Dubai.. All windows open, birds singing, wore a sweater from the airport and was happy.
The mountain are beautiful and snow capped.
Was greeted with strawberries, cherries, apricots, apples.. All local, 3 or 4 varieties of Burfi.. And Rasa Malai.
Gaura, Subal, Patita Pavan received me.
I'm back home to Asia.

I just saw a vaisnava calendar and it mentioned that today is the purnima of the month of Jyestha. It is also Snana Yatra, and the disappearance day of Mukunda Datta and Kholeveca Sridhar.
Remembering these events brought many remembrances to heart.
Lord Jagannatha, Mukunda, Sridhar, Lord Caitanya and Sanatan Goswami.
Once, during this hot month of Jyestha in Jagannatha Puri, Lord Caitanya was honouring prasadam in the Yamala gardens. He sent word for Sanatan Goswami to join Him.
Srila Sanatan stayed with Haridasa at Siddhna Bakul. To reach the gardens there were two paths which he could take. One was a pleasant walk by the Simhadvara gate of the Jagannatha Temple and the other was across the blazing sand of the beach.
As gentlemen have their lunch at midday.. it was quite blazing outside.. yet Srila Sanatan chose to walk across the burning sand to reach the Lord. And dues to his eagerness of meeting Lord Caitanya, he felt no pain or inconvenience.
Sanatan arrived after the Lord had finished His prasad and was already resting and thus he was served the Lord's food remnants by Govinda.
When the Lord arose he saw blisters on Sanatan's feet and asked, "how did you reach this place?" When Sanatan replied that he had come by the beach the Lord was amazed and said, "it so terribly hot, why didn't you come by the Simhadvaram?"
Then Sanatan replied that the priests of the temple enter and exit through the Simhadvaram. I am so fallen that if I go near any of them they will become polluted and thus they will make an offence to Lord Jagannatha.
When Lord Caitanya heard Srila Sanatan's reply He was very pleased with Srila Sanatan's vaisnava humility.
I once had the fortune to assist Srila Prabhupada's sister Pisima as she left the temple. At that time I asked her why she always carried a small bottle of Ganga water.
She replied by saying that her body was a nasty bag of contamination. Thus, every time she would rise from sitting she would sprinkle Ganga water to purify that place.
I'm so low that I feel where I sit becomes a place of pilgrimage.
I pray that the remembrance of the Lord, His great devotees like Srila Sanatan, Srila Prabhupada, and Pisima will purify my consciousness and allow even a trace of true vaisnava humility to awaken in my heart.

So we have to understand our position. The dirty things should be removed completely, always by hearing krsna-katha. That is the way of understanding. Only way.
This Vrndavana is so important, valuable. Why? Because anywhere you go in Vrndavana, there is the opportunity of hearing krsna-katha. This whole Vrndavana is simply cultivation of Krsna consciousness.
Unfortunately, we take to other consciousness here. Therefore we become condemned. In Vrndavana, if we take other consciousness, then we become condemned. Condemned means he -- still, the opportunity's there -- condemned to accept a body other than a human being. But he's helped. Because he's in Vrndavana, he's making progress.
Even as animal, as hogs and dogs, he's making progress, because he's in Vrndavana. So Vrndavana is so important, because here anyone can get the opportunity of Krsna consciousness. Therefore it is so important. Vrndavana-dhama. Dhama means where Krsna resides. That is called dhama. Vrndavana-dhama.
Aradhyo bhagavan vrajesa-tanayas tad-dhama. Dhama means residence. Tad-dhama vrndavanam. So Vrndavana is not polluted. Vrndavana is always helping us.
Anyone who comes to Vrndavana, he's helped immediately, even though he is criminal number one. But if we remain in criminal mentality in Vrndavana, then we have to accept another birth to suffer. Then it will be all right, and then again he will be elevated. Due to Vrndavana... The Vrndavana influence will act, but if we commit something against the Vrndavana principle, then we have to accept reaction.
Karmana daiva-netrena. Karmani nirdahati
It is said in the sastra, the karma is reduced for the devotees. That much facility's there.
Karma is reduced means in other place, if you commit some sinful activities, then you have to accept a body, and then evolution will take place gradually. Then you again come to human form of body. Then again, if you are intelligent enough, you can utilize.
But in Vrndavana the karmani nirdahati...
Suppose for your sinful, criminal acts you become hogs and dog; next life you are elevated. That is karmani nirdahati. The karma, the cycle of fruitive activities is reduced. But you have to accept. You have to accept. But nirdahati.
But why should we waste our time accepting another body of dogs and hog? That we should be very much careful. Although it is nirdahati, it is reduced, why should we accept even that reduced punishment? That should be our principle. But we do not know. We commit ignorance. Therefore Rupa Gosvami has described: sinful activities are done due to ignorance, ajnana. Just like a child touches the fire. Everyone knows if you touch fire, it will burn, but the child, out of ignorance, touches. Therefore the child is under the protection of the parents so that the child may not do something wrong and suffer.

Dear Friends.. Hare Krishna!!
I am reaching Russia on June 19th and will be travelling in Russia, Sweden, and Baltic Summer Festival until July 30th.
I am in need of a good harmonium player and mrdanga player for this summer period.
The salary is really, really lousy.
But we stay in the best places, have the best cuisine, have the nicest association, we'll read the best books together, most likely have very nice Russian sauna, lots of natural teas, freshest honeys, home made jams, lots of fresh fruits, as much smetana as a human can eat and probably will have a few good kirtans.
So again, harmonium and mrdanga is needed.

I have gone from 24 hours desert Persian Gulf wet sauna of Dubai to 12 degrees crisp and brilliantly clear Moscow.
To be able to sleep again without a AC blowing. It's mercy!!

Since the all-perfect persons are inhabitants of the transcendental abode, they do not derive any pleasure there.

Generally I don't post pictures of what I eat, but, these Piroshki's won the Govinda Swami culinary award in the "REAL TASTY" category. The filling was mashed potato, salt, sufficient black pepper and dill. You will be pleased to know that I only ate one.. though I wanted to eat all three.
