Why do I study here? I never dreamed of my future profession at school and when I faced the choice I decided to choose the faculty of History and Law. The advantages of this faculty are in the choice of future profession and jobs. I think that now the profession of a lawyer is one of the most important in the law-governed state which we are creating now. Lawyers have to solve many problems that still exist in our society. The duty of lawyers is not only to punish people for various crimes: hooliganism, stealing, murder, traffic violation and so on, but they must do their best to prevent crimes, to fight against evil in our society. They should help those people who committed an error to find the right road in their life. The lawyers protect the rights and legal interests of citizens, institutions and organizations.

Centuries ago, where the River Thames near London Bridge was slowed down by the narrow piers allowing the water to freeze, the ice often reached a depth of several inches. But in the heavy frosts in the seventeenth century, the ice was quite safe to walk on and frost fairs were held on the river. Open stages and platforms were erected for all kinds of performance and entertainment, with penny booths, stalls and tents for refreshments. Even whole oxen were roasted. Large crowds walking over the ice joined the festivities. Contemporary painting shows that these fairs took place for many years. In fact, in 1698 the frost was so severe that a coach and six horses was driven right across the river. This was all good fun for the Londoners, but it was a difficult time for those whose life depended on the river. Thames ferrymen and watermen were put out of business. Milder winters that followed put an end to these festivities.

Law is a rule made by authority for the proper regulation of a community or society or for correct conduct in life. No community can exist without law. It penetrates all the spheres of life and human activities. The knowledge of law prevents one from committing offences and crimes.

I am going to tell you about the non-state higher educational institution – the Eastern Institute of Economics, Humanities, Management and Law. It was established in January 1993 and was granted a state charter which means that its graduates receive diploma equal to the diploma of any state higher educational institution. Now it has a solid reputation for preparing specialists working in banks, police, educational institutions, tax inspection and other state and commercial institutions.

Unlike applicants to a state institute or university prospective students of the Eastern Institute do not take entrance examinations; this higher educational institution chooses its students after interviews and tests. The students pay for their education. The tuition fee is not the same at different faculties. It depends on the faculty one chooses and the department – full-time or extra-mural.

Mastering their special subjects future lawyers, economists, teachers, psychologists learn the basis of the profession they have chosen. Most students take an active part in research work because it is one of the best ways to master their profession. In many programs students help plan and participate in colloquia, national and international conferences, research projects and other activities. Computing labs provide the necessary back-up services including consultations, computing courses, software development and technical documentation.

At the end of each term students take credit tests and examinations.

Once the student has successfully completed course work and passed qualifying examinations the final step is to submit and defend his/her graduation project.

The Eastern Institute of Economics, Humanities, Management and Law is young but we are sure that it is a promising higher educational institution. Since its foundation in 1993 the number of student has increased, the program of studies has broadened and deepened, the standards have been raised, and the efficiency of instruction has greatly improved.

At present the Eastern Institute has seven faculties: The Faculty of Law, the faculty of Economics and Finance, the faculty of Pedagogies and Psychology, the Faculty of History and Law, the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Native Philology, the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports, the Faculty of Social Cultural Work. Nowadays it has about 17 thousand students and over a 500 academia staff.

The academic staff is composed of highly trained teachers, among them there are 9 Members of the Academy of Sciences, more than 50 Doctors of Sciences and over 280 Candidates of Sciences.

The headquarters of the Eastern Institute is in Ufa, the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Since its foundation in 1993 the Institute has got wide recognition all over the country and now it has branches in many cities and towns of Russia – Moscow, Samara, Tomsk, Sterlitamak, Almetyevsk, Sotchi and others.
