On behalf of the Nazarbayev University Engineering Society let me kindly invite you to the meeting with:

Peter Johnson

(former professor of Seng NU; currently a field engineer at Schlumberger)

Despite his young age (late 20’s) professor Johnson has a unique academic and in-field engineering experience which he wants to share with students.

A brief CV of the guest:

· PhD - Fluid Dynamics (UCL): Topic: “Development of a new type of rotor for harnessing tidal stream energy”

· Mechanical Engineer: DEKA Research & Development

· Owner of Kauffman Foundation Global Scholarship: funded by UK Government and consisting of a series of MBA classes at Stanford, Harvard and MIT business schools and at the Kauffman Foundation

· Research Assistant at Columbia University

· Support Engineer: NP Aerospace

· Author of a number of publications: the most current “Impulsively started planar actuator surfaces in high-Reynolds-number steady flow” was published in Journal of Fluid Mechanics

· 'Best Faculty Member', 2012 – Nazarbayev University

It will be approximately 30 min informal lecture where prof. Johnson will describe the most notable activities of his career followed by Q&A session (30 min).

During the lecture such significant topics as:

· Is it better to have a Master’s degree immediately after finishing the Bachelor’s?

· How to get the most fruitful and interesting internships during your study at University?

· How to make your CV more attractive for the employer?

· What are the main qualities a real engineer should have?

· How to get a position in such global companies as Schlumberger?

will be covered.

Note:

Please do not ask prof. Johnson many specific questions about Schlumberger company, as he does not work in recruitment. It would better for you to ask more personal questions regarding your studies and future career.
