Today we have to clean our Grammar room! Берем пылесос и убираемся в комнате: вспоминаем и подписываем все полочки, которые у нас есть.

У нас появляется новая полка в Grammar room: Past Continuous

Name	Past Continuous
Rule	We use PC when we talk about an action, which was happening at a certain time or during a certain period of time in the past.
Markers	yesterday at 6, while, for 2 hours, during* the summer, from 5 to/till 6, all day, all night
Structure	was/were + Ving
Special features	We don’t use these verbs in Past Continuous: like, believe, have (иметь), know, love, prefer, understand, want, wish, hate, remember, need
Monkey Job	I was doing my hw yesterday from 4 to 6. I wasn’t doing my hw yesterday from 4 to 6. Was I doing my hw yesterday from 4 to 6? What time was I doing my hw yesterday?

Compare (сравни):

I was doing my homework yesterday (я делал - процесс) and

I did my homework yesterday (я сделал - факт)

Для того, чтобы правильно выбрать время нужно сперва правильно перевести, потом почувствовать время (почувствовать длительность, процесс).

Обычно предложения, которые переводятся в Past Continuous, на русском отвечают на вопрос что делал? (в отличие от что сделал?)

Сравните – Я прочитал эту книгу. (что сделал?) I read this book.

Я читал эту книгу весь день. (что делал?) I was reading this book all day.
