Task 2.6. Read the text and name the musical instruments of the orchestra below.

 

 

What is the layout of the orchestra?

 

The conductor stands in front of the orchestra with his back turned to the audience. To his left there are the first violinists (under the management of a concertmaster). The second violinists seat next to the first violinists. The viola players seat mid-centre. The cellists are to the right of the conductor. The contra-basses are placed behind the cellos. Behind the violas there are the flutes and piccolos, to the right of them there are oboes and bassoons. Behind the oboes and bassoons there are the clarinets and bass clarinets. Behind the woodwind section there is the brass section with the French horns to the left, trumpets, trombones and tuba next to them. At the back of the Orchestra there is the percussion section with drums, bass drums, kettledrums, cymbals, vibraphones, in the far left corner there is the harp. In case of a pianist, he or she is to be to the left of the conductor.
