There are many universities in Rostov. The head of university is Rector. Usually there are several faculties in a university. Each faculty has a number of specialized departments and is headed by dean. The course of studies lasts 5 – 6 years.

The academic year in this country’s higher schools begins on the 1-st of September and is divided into two terms (semesters). Students take exams at the end of each semester. If the results of the examinations are good, students get grants. Twice a year students have vacations – two weeks in winter and two month in summer.

Every faculty has its own specialized library, laboratories, workshops and computer centers.

The first- and second-year students study general engineering subjects. In the third year students begin to study specialized subjects.

A very good tradition of our University is that theory is accompanied by practical training. Students begin to work at the University’s well-equipped laboratories and in senior years at various plants, design offices and research institutes of this country.

Don State Technical University is the biggest dynamically developing center of science, education and culture. During its activity the University has trained more than 60000 engineers, programmers, economists and other specialists.

Nowadays more than 7000 students, including 300 foreigners, and 150 post-graduates get education at 12 faculties.

Our University has 6 buildings for students, scientific and practical work. There are libraries, computer halls, workshops, health center, sport halls and summer campus for students and professors at the seashore of the Black Sea, comfortable student hostels, and university cultural center. DSTU gives you a chance to be well educated, mobile and creative.

Don State Technical University takes a special place in the educational complex of the South region. About 13 thousand students study at 12 faculties in 43 specialties. No one other university in our region has such a unique range of professional suggestions. There are a great number of different traditions at our university; among them there is succession of generations, special atmosphere of mutual understanding and mutual support.
