  1. Choosing a Career
  2. TOPIC: EMPLOYMENT. LOOKING FOR A JOB. CAREER-MAKING

The world around you is very complicated and there are many career opportunities opening before a young person. In the diversity of choice it is quite difficult to take a decision on the future profession. However, there’s a special niche waiting for everyone. Everyone has a mission to fulfill, and it takes more than inspiration to move a dream into reality. It takes self-honesty, strategic thinking, developing an action plan and consistent follow through.

Teachers and parents try to channel the young’s enthusiasm into some realistic. While choosing a job many factors should be taken into consideration: wages and salaries, job satisfaction, opportunities to travel and to see much, etc. Perhaps the most important criterion is job satisfaction.

If you are completely at a loss, a better solution would be to turn to your parents for advice. Perhaps this would make your choice somewhat easier. Another way is to speak to people you are familiar with, inquiring about their occupations and considering if any looks attractive to you. Ask, what their responsibilities are, ask about advantages and disadvantages. At least this would help you decide what profession you don’t like and that, in turn, would narrow your choice.

The transition to a new life design can take time, and even a lot of time, but the result is worth it. The career you choose is likely to affect many aspects of your life. It may influence how much you earn, the type of home you will live in and the like. But it works both ways. Your personal interests and values influence your career decision. Because of the wide range of possibilities you should find out all you could about any job that interests you.

Like a hobby or a sport every job involves knowledge and skills that you must learn. Perhaps, the best way to prepare for any job is to get a good education. Due to this reason I study at the communication college now. I’m going to get a profession in the field of radio-engineering (radio-communication, TV-communication, etc). Career opportunities after graduating from the college are quite/not wide. In our days there is a considerable demand for such kind of professions because communication has become one of the most technological and important industries applied in every aspect of social life. While studying I haven’t disappointed with the chosen career. However, I’m not quite sure I’ll work in this field. I’ll probably enter some university to perfect my knowledge and skills in radio-engineering. I even may change my profession completely. I haven’t made up my mind yet.

You know, jobs change and new ones are constantly appearing. And, maybe the most important thing of all – don’t be afraid even to make a mistake. Challenge the world, be your own master and you are sure to be lucky!
